  1. Hi Steve. Hope all is well with you. And Pixie.
  2. Congrats on 200, that`s brilliant ! Well done !
  3. Oo-kay. This is what happens when you walk into the middle of a conversation..
  4. Well, I came down with the flu - for the second time this year - 3 weeks in and I`m still feeling pretty rotten, but slowly on the mend. And now to catch up..
  5. I always enjoy reading your reviews, Julie.
  6. And me. I really enjoyed her autobiography too, especially how she became an archeologist because of her second husband.
  7. Wow ! Congrats on the new books ! I do prefer extreme weather to the usual UK blahness we seem to get ( though we`ve had rain pelting down the last couple of nights, which has been lovely ). I loved Fringe when it aired, and just finished watching S3 of Longmire here ( glad to see that Netflix ( ?) has decided to buy the show to make more episodes ).
  8. The Bullet did sound really good ; I haven`t been able to find an excerpt for it, but I did find one for her other book Anonymous Sources, which I`ve put on my ` buy at some point` list.
  9. Congrats on making all those changes as regards your shopping - well done !
  10. Two more Mr and Mrs North books ( I`m buying them when there are price drops ) - Killing the Goose ( £6.16 ) and Payoff for the Banker ( £7.08 ). Books read : 62 TBR 795 New Books Bought : 88 Total Cost : £ 234.68
  11. Thank you ! A couple of standouts for me have been .. Voyage into Violence - Frances and Richard Lockridge - Written in the 1950`s, Pam and Jerry North and their friends Lt. Bill and wife Dorian go on a cruise to Cuba, finding time to investigate a ship-board murder. The whole feel of the place really comes across. No Word from Winifred - Amanda Cross - Professor Kate is asked to investigate the disappearance of the niece of a famous novelist. As the book unfolds, through interviews with people who knew the niece, and through diary excerpts, a picture of a strong, independent woman appears. Have you read any favourites so far ?
  12. Mental Floss - Cats who live in Libraries.
  13. I`ve really enjoyed reading your reviews. Oh ! I have that Pines book on my Kindle, lurking in my get-to-at-some-point pile.
  14. Books read : 59 TBR 794 New Books Bought : 84 Total Cost : £ 207.56 Book # 60 The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog - Elizabeth Peters The 7th Amelia Peabody book and not my favourite. It`s still enjoyable but I didn`t find it as much fun as previous books . Book # 61 Murder within Murder - Frances and Richard Lockridge 1940`s New York. Miss Gipson is murdered in the public Library, whilst doing research work for North Books on unsolved murders. Pam and Jerry North investigate, and find that umpteen people wanted her dead, though no-one could`ve dunnit. A funny and interesting read ; I hadn`t realised that the US also had rationing during WW2 ( Pam buys cream and makes her own butter from it in the book). Book # 62 A Pinch of Poison - Frances and Richard Lockridge Society girl Lois is murdered in a nightclub and the Norths help to investigate. Lois turns out to have trained in social work and to have volunteered at an adoption agency ; there`s much contrast between her home life and life in the Bronx, where she worked. The authors are so good at describing life in New York ; you can really feel how hot and sticky everyone is in the Summertime. I`ve ordered a couple more Mr and Mrs North books - Murder out of Turn ( £7.24 ) and Death on the Aisle ( £6.64 ). It`s such a pity these books are all out of print. Books read : 62 TBR 793 New Books Bought : 86 Total Cost : £ 221.44
  15. Hi Julie ! Lovely to see you on here again !
  16. Chocolate. And coffee. Also, being with my cat, meditating, doing some Tai Chi.
  17. Is there anything you can do when you`re feeling rough which cheers you up, like being with your animals ?
  18. Thank you. It`s such a little, silly thing which really makes me feel awful. Must be more positive ! I hope you and your Dad feel better soon too.
  19. Thank you ! Choo choo !! Though I do feel a bit stuck - I don`t feel like reading anything except the comforting Mr and Mrs North books or the Amelia Peabody ones today ; hayfever has hit hard this year and dragged me down with it. The Furry Princess has weepy eyes too. I`ve Kimpled it and shall take a looksie . It`s reminded me of quite how many book excerpts I`ve got, and should really do something about, rather than just adding to them.
  20. Just watching the Charlie Rose show and this Dan Harris book on meditation looks interesting. Also, I was reading my Oprah magazine last night and Kate Mulgrew ( Star Trek Voyager`s Captain ) has a memoir out, which I`m excited about. And also also, Pat McDermott has a new book out - she has a very funny column in the Australian Women`s Weekly. I don`t think my TBR is going to go down any time soon.
  21. Congrats on the latest books. The Schliemann one should be good, I imagine.
