  4. Firstly my goals for this year 1. Is to read more books than the previous year - which won't be hard as last year was woeful for me. I'd like to read at least 52. 2. To control my spending habits and only order/buy once every 3 months and to keep in under $100 when I do order. 3. To finish some of the series I have going - or at least read what I have of said series not just buy them all in the hopes that I'll love them all. 4. To NOT buy every book in a series just because it is a series - if I don't like it then I don't have to buy them for series sake. 5. to read at least one classic this year as I've really enjoyed those I have read so far.
  5. I finally finished read The Neverending Story yesterday and it felt like just that. The second half of this book really dragged me down it took 4 WEEKS to finish I just couldn't get into it at all, and I fully understand why they finished up the movie where they did. I've now moved on to Mort by Terry Pratchett which so far is pretty good.
  6. A few days ago I finished The Enchantress (the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel) by Michael Scott. It was the final book in this series and a fitting ending. Once agan I shed a few tears near the end but I'm an emotional person I have since started The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
  7. I finished The Warlock (the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flammel) by Michael Scott last night. This is the second to last book in this series, which means yet another great series that I've read for years will be finished up this year. 2012 is fast becoming a series finishing year, it's sad really.
  8. Finished reading Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett today. I must say that granny weatherwax is my second favourite character after Death so far in the discworld series. I've only read four so far ( the first three and Hogfather), and look forward to reading many more in the future.
  9. You'd think after years of reading Matthew Reilly books I would learn that they are simply un-putdownable once started, but apparently not. I finally decided I would read his latest Scarecrow and the army of thieves about five in the afternoon yesterday, and HAD to stay up and finish it (1:30am), it's been a long time since a book has made me feel this way. It's a ripsnorter of a read, I felt like I'd held my breath for the entire thing - but that's what makes these books great.
  10. Finished The lost Stories the final book in the Ranger's apprentice series. It was good to tie up loose ends but as usual I was bawling, I'll really miss these books - I'm forever greatful that the new cover art and $5.00 price tag drew me in all those years ago great Australian series.
  11. Today I went out and bought three books. I got Inheritance by Christopher Paolini The selection by Kiera Cass The Enchantress (the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel) by Michael Scott. Two are the conclusions to series which is rather sad, and the third is a new to me author I liked the cover and as the deal was 3 for $30.00 I picked it up too.
  12. I've just finished reading book 10 in the Ranger's Apprentice series The emperor of Nihon-Ja by John Flanagan. Good read, it was good to get back into this world I've come to love the characters in these books and I'll be sad to see the end of the series. On a high note my next read will be book 11 The Lost Stories so I can stay in this world a little longer.
  13. I have this on my wish list as I loved the title - I found it on Fantastic Fiction. You'll be glad to know there is a second one called The girl who fell beneath Fairyland and led the revels there, which is due out at the end of this year.
  14. I bought this last week as the cover jumped out at me, glad it's going to be a good read too.
  15. great review of the Alloy of law, it's definitely been bumped up my tbr list as a sooner rather than later.
  16. Today I started and finished Skulduggery Pleasant - the end of the world by Derek Landy. This is the short story he wrote for world book day this year, and it's a good little read.
  17. I finished Spy Glass late last night. It was a good story, it was good to see Opal finally using her head a bit. I think there is potential for another book, there is certainly an opening but I personally think here would be a good ending point - Opal gets on my nerves a bit.
  18. I'm interested to hear what you think of the Mistborn book, I have it on my shelf, but haven't the urge to pick it up yet.
  19. I'm reading the third book in the Glass series/trilogy (I'm not sure which it is) Spy Glass by Maria V Synder. I quite liked the other two I've read and I loved the Study books Poison, Magic and Fire - eventhough I read those three out of order they were great.
  20. I've just finished the last book in the Mistborn trilogy The hero of ages. I cried in the end I'm such a sook, well worth a read if you haven't read them yet.
  21. I finished reading The Phantom of the Opera, quite a good read. I've now moved on to the second book in the Mistborn Trilogy - The well of ascension by Brandon Sanderson. I read the first one way back in January 2011, so I hope there's not too much I've forgotten!
  22. I've almost finished reading The Phantom of the opera. I'm enjoying it and I've started stashing money to go and see it if it ever comes here. Great story.
  23. I'm reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. I'm loving it so far and also kicking myself that I didn't start reading classics years ago.
  24. Tonight I finished reading A short history of tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well written and they draw you into the story from the first page. Wonderful book and one I will be passing onto friends, if you come across it don't let the title put you off - it's well worth the read. For years, Nadezhda and Vera, two Ukrainian sisters, raised in England by their refugee parents, have had as little as possible to do with each other - and they have their reasons. But now they find they'd better learn how to get along, because since their mother's death their aging father has been sliding into his second childhood, and an alarming new woman has just entered his life. Valentina, a bosomy young synthetic blonde from the Ukraine, seems to think their father is much richer than he is, and she is keen that he leave this world with as little money to his name as possible. If Nadazhda and Vera don't stop her, no one will. But separating their addled and annoyingly lecherous dad from his new love will prove to be no easy feat - Valentina is a ruthless pro and the two sisters swiftly realize that they are mere amateurs when it comes to ruthlessness. As Hurricane Valentina turns the family house upside down, old secrets come falling out, including the most deeply buried one of them all, from the War, the one that explains much about why Nadazhda and Vera are so different. In the meantime, oblivious to it all, their father carries on with the great work of his dotage, a grand history of the tractor.
