The first season over here in the US aired earlier this year... Loved it! Waiting to see when the next season will be airing... Anyone heard any news on this here in the States?

Has anyone read Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue? I'm trying to get into it, but I'm finding it so similar in concept to The Crimson Petal and the White that it's making it difficult since that was only two books ago from me. That was such a long read and something I loved so much that I invested myself in it anytime I had a free moment, so Slammerkin is feeling like an extension of that and it's mentally exhausting going back to that place so soon. Anyone read it and can either confirm or deny my concerns of similarity between the two books?

I was going to make the same recommendation Clive made: "And Then There Were None" It was my first Agatha Christie book, and it was a great first read from her!

Ah ha! It wasn't too long after Stacey arrived that I was at the age where I swapped into another collection. (Sweet Valley High, anyone? ) I don't remember as much about her! All this talk kind of makes me want to go back and re-read the ones I read, and read the ones I missed after swapping collections. Is that an issue?

The article SEEMS like it won't be placing every book at $5 (forgive me.. I don't know if we even have 'pound' signs on our comps in the US!), just individual books that are part of a campaign: The 296-store Waterstone's business is now said to be looking at introducing money-off deals for individual books from September, instead of the blanket three-for-two, either pricing campaign books at £5, or introducing a "staggered" offer for paperbacks at £3, £5 and £7. Not sure if particular campaigns will run for a month, 2 weeks, 3 months, etc... but regardless, it seems that only certain books will be part of that $5 special. Hope this helps!

Oooh that's a neat setting! Chinatown has all kinds of interesting sights, people, and sounds. The BSC was all set in Stonybrook, CT when I read them... but I'm guessing as the characters aged, they may have starting coming into the city and I had just already stopped reading the series by then?

Since I live in New York City, I'm sure there must be DOZENS here... but my mind is totally blank! There HAS to be some, right?! I'm sure Ellis Island is covered in a ton of immigration books, and the Status of Liberty, and the huge bank buildings covered in all of the investment/trading books. Must be lots!

You already read "The House at Riverton," right? You MIGHT like Ken Follett's "A Dangerous Fortune."

I actually AM... I usually am on the side of "movies ruin books" but this is just such a light, fun read that I think I can try it and if I hate it... eh, nothing lost. LOVED TCPATW.. SUCH a good read. Every time I opened it, the pages just took me to another world. It sounds cheesy, but that's totally how I felt! Let the fun begin... You are going to be sooo addicted.

Had to steer away from "The Snowman" by Jo Nesbo... just could NOT get into it! Moved on to "Perfect Peace" by Daniel Black. Much better already!

"Savanah Breeze" by Mary Kay Andrews has 2 recipes in the back... 1 for a beachy dinner, and 1 for a cocktail. Could be great for the summer months!

Maybe some of Lisa See's books would be interesting for you? Not sure if they're in exactly the right timeframe, but worth a look! HTH

Just finished "The Crimson Petal and the White" and now starting "The Snowman" by Jo Nesbo.

They're SO good and completely addictive! Before I started reading the first one, I didn't think it sounded remotely like anything I'd like. And by the end, I was giving up sleep to keep turning pages. Such great reads! I hope you get to try them soon.

Only about 100 pages left of "The Crimson Petal and the White"... probably finish this weekend.

I'm seconding this... I read the first one on vacation and it was such a fast, entertaining read. I only wish I'd had the 2nd one on hand since it drove me crazy not being able to continue the story.

Started reading The Crimson Petal and the White a few days ago... Only 40 or so pages in so far since I've only really had time to read during my commute, but I am LOVING it so far. I love the writing style... It feels like I'm literally transported to a different world when I open the book. Can't wait to spend some time this weekend getting through much more of it.

Finished the 3rd and final book this morning -- This one was my favorite! I loved this series, just like the majority of you.

I finished the final book of The Hunger Game series (Mockingjay) this morning on the way to work! Suuuch a good trilogy. Now onto One Day by David Nicholls for my 'real life' book club. Anyone read this one?
