I've seen a few annotated editions of books I love, but I've never had a particularly close look at them.

I noticed the Annotated Phantom Tollbooth recently came out, which I'm considering buying (ooh, I just noticed there's a video about it in the above link), and I also quite fancy The New Annotated Dracula.

Do you own any annotated books? Do you think they're worth buying?

I don't own any annotated books, although I do quite fancy the annotated version of Alice in Wonderland. I shall look for some recommendations in here! :)

I finally bought the annotated edition of Lolita, after reading it without a couple of times, and marking and cross referencing the original version. It did help though, mostly with terms of the time that I'd been unfamiliar with, and French, as I don't speak French. I found it added another layer.

I have the annotated copy of Ulysses, although all of it unread at present. The annotation is longer than the book itself!

Alice in Wonderland is another that I'd consider buying. :)

I had no idea there was one for Lolita! I must look into that as well.

I think it would be wise for me to have annotated editions of any or all of James Joyce's works when I get around to reading him! My friend has read Finnegan's Wake once or twice, but with the aid of huge amounts of notes (I think there's a sort of internet database).

This thread is going to cost me a fortune, I think. ;)
