Kylie Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I've seen a few annotated editions of books I love, but I've never had a particularly close look at them. I noticed the Annotated Phantom Tollbooth recently came out, which I'm considering buying (ooh, I just noticed there's a video about it in the above link), and I also quite fancy The New Annotated Dracula. Do you own any annotated books? Do you think they're worth buying? Quote
Janet Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I don't own any annotated books, although I do quite fancy the annotated version of Alice in Wonderland. I shall look for some recommendations in here! Quote
pontalba Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I finally bought the annotated edition of Lolita, after reading it without a couple of times, and marking and cross referencing the original version. It did help though, mostly with terms of the time that I'd been unfamiliar with, and French, as I don't speak French. I found it added another layer. I have the annotated copy of Ulysses, although all of it unread at present. The annotation is longer than the book itself! Quote
Kylie Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Alice in Wonderland is another that I'd consider buying. I had no idea there was one for Lolita! I must look into that as well. I think it would be wise for me to have annotated editions of any or all of James Joyce's works when I get around to reading him! My friend has read Finnegan's Wake once or twice, but with the aid of huge amounts of notes (I think there's a sort of internet database). This thread is going to cost me a fortune, I think. Quote
