chaliepud Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 It's all very controlled, sadly I can't just grab a wolf and take it to the local park.. This is the website if you want to take a look - http://ukwct.org.uk/ It looks like it can vary day to day depending on what mood they are in, if a wolf doesn't feel like a walk I suppose it's not a good idea to push the matter!! I'll be able to take a friend with me but not sure i'll have them crowding my driveway wanting to come.. Quote
chaliepud Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) You can never go wrong with a dog book. Very true, I have just a few sitting there and have decided to read Ordinary Dogs as it has been on the shelf since Christmas time! It's started well, the lady clearly hasn't much of a clue about dog ownership and the poor little mite she has adopted isn't having the best start but I can tell she is already besotted with the little fella (Bilbo), as am I! That should make a really interesting experience! Just please be safe! If we're allowed to take pics I definitely will, I'm just so excited that I'll be able to get close to them. I'm intrigued to see how similar they are to my pet dogs, and I'm wondering what my lot will think of how I smell when I get home! Candyfloss may steer clear for a while!! Quote
chaliepud Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 I've had a good reading week, I can only put it down to having made a decision to make a severe dent in my TBR pile (a la Chesil!) I'm feeling much more relaxed about my reading now... This week I have finished Hollow Pike, Paranormalcy and Ordinary Dogs, all good reads and taking this years total up to 45 so far, well on track to reach my target of 50, yay!! I have just now started One Dog and His Boy by Eva Ibbotsen ... continuing the dog theme!!! Quote
chaliepud Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Finished One Dog and His Boy, a sweet little read and one I can't wait for my animal loving daughter to read. Starting A Dog's Purpose by W.Bruce Cameron as I'm still in a doggy book kinda mood! After A Dog's Purpose there'll be 57 books left on my TBR shelf, my aim is to get to 50 by Christmas....... Quote

I bet your doggy posse will be quiet weirded out, too. Maybe Obi will start throwing up mice again As well as sharing pics, you have to tell us how your animal family reacted to the experience! You are definitely going to get to your target number And I so envy your doggy themed sequence of books, you're on a roll I took a look at my read books list and here's the list of doggy books I promised (I'll list them all eventhough I know you've read some of them): - John Grogan: Marley and Me - Jacqueline Sheehan: Lost & Found (in this one the dog is not the focus, but it's still okay) - Greg Kincaid: A Dog Named Christmas (this is a rather short novel, but full of season's good will and dogs ) - Garth Stein: The Art of Racing in the Rain (this one certainly needs no introductions!) - Lucy Dillon: Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts (like the Sheehan book, this is a chick-littish book with dogs on the side) - Matt Haig: The Last Family in England (I can't remember if you've read this, this is my second favorite after Enzo!) - Nuala Gardner: A Friend Like Henry (true story, an autistic boy gets a dog who changes his life) - Thomas Mann: A Man and His Dog (a novella) - Spencer Quinn: Dog On It (you know this one, right? There's a whole series) - Philip Gonzalez: The Dog Who Rescues Cats (a true story, you'll cry rivers) This one I haven't read, but I have it on my TBR pile and you might like it (I don't remember if you know it: - Rebecca Hunt: Mr Chartwell (there's an interesting twist to the dog character in the story) (And if someone recommends Gavriil Troyepolsky's White Bim Black Ear, I would strongly recommend you pass that one. It's just a sad story that will break your heart and you'll dislike the person who recommended it to you forever.) Quote

No more mice recently thank goodness, though yesterday a Border Terrier desperately tried to end up the same way It was only a puppy so I ended picking the diddy one up as it just wouldn't get the message that Obi didn't want to play wrestle with her.. Thanks for the advice, I'll try to remember that one, I need an 'I Don't Wish LIst'!!! I'm sure it's obvious but I'm not very bright!! Quote

Awww, poor Border Terrier, she only wanted to have a bit of play and Obi refused, awwww Thanks frankie, there's a fair few there I haven't read so they've gone straight onto my wish list! You are welcome! Yeah I saw all the titles you had added on Goodreads Mind you, I've just been to a flea market and found a book you are more than likely to be interested in: Dogs Never Lie About Love - Reflections on the Emotional World of Dogs by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson. I was reading a page from it in the queue for the register and it seemed like a really enjoyable read I thought of you and thought I must tell you as soon as I get home Oh, and a quick tech question, how to I reply to a message and get the individual quotes to come up in boxes so that I can reply to each one separately without having to do it like this?! I'm sure it's obvious but I'm not very bright!! Oh don't worry, it took me ages to figure it out myself when I started on here When I click reply, I can see this sort of thing at the top of the message: [ quote name=chaliepud' timestamp='1350472454' post='316538] and [ /quote] at the bottom. (have added the extra spaces after the first bracket so you can see what I mean, do not add them when quoting) If I want to quote a short passage I'll just copy+paste the [ quote name etc.] thing, then the passage and then [ /quote], and then I can write my response after that, and then do another [ quote name] thingy + [ /quote] again Oh dear, I don't think I'm very good at explaining this! chaliepud Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Dog dang it! They should make an exception to the rule with you Maybe you could give them a call for me? Awww, poor Border Terrier, she only wanted to have a bit of play and Obi refused, awwww She picked the wrong dog, Obi prefers older females as a rule, so he's normally on the look out for 'Cougar' dogs! frankie Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Maybe you could give them a call for me? Of course! I'll see to it that you'll get a very special tour. As a matter of fact, I think I shall arrange it so that when the wolfs are in a good mood, they'll call you and send a helicopter for you. She picked the wrong dog, Obi prefers older females as a rule, so he's normally on the look out for 'Cougar' dogs! Oh, Obi Well, we all have our preferences... It's on the wishlist already!!!! I think Steve will have to buy you a new bookcase soon Did it work????? Beautifully, and on your first try, too! Quote
chaliepud Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 I finished The Blue Door (brilliant) yesterday which means I have reached my target of 50 books read this year with still 9 ish weeks to go until 2013!! Very tired after a late and rather drunken night out with the girls last night so will have an early night with my new read, A Monster Calls, if I can keep my eyes open! It's been an exhausting week, Steve came home 3 days early on Sunday evening as he needs a minor finger op so we've been rushing around trying to get referrals before he goes back to work a week on Sunday, I've had root canal treatment, Obi had an op on Monday morning to remove a rather large fatty lump, and we've also been trawling the car showrooms to try and find a replacement for my old Sharan, it's so hard to find a car that fits 3 growing children, 3 good size dogs, and that we actually like! Now today the kids have finished school for the week so it's time for some quality family time! Quote

chaliepud Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 congratulations on reaching your target Thank you!! I've slowed down what with Steve being home for 2 weeks, hopefully I'll get cracking again when he goes back to work! Quote
chaliepud Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 Gosh Chaliepud you do seem to be having a stressful time of it at the moment Hope you manage to sort out the car soon & get some time to relax. There were a few days at the end of October where we didn't think everything would work out but all okay now.. Steve's finger was operated on Tuesday and will be fine, no permanent damage done. Obi's operation went well, recovery a little slower than we would have liked but he is happy and back to his bouncy self now and the wound has healed nicely, he can go back to full exercise on Monday. We have also bought a new(ish) car that I will be collecting one day this week, unfortunately it's a 50 minute drive away in Crawley but they were the only garage within a 100 miles to have the model I wanted! Steve goes back to work tomorrow - if his visa comes through anyway, they are notoriously slow with paperwork and it often goes down to the wire! - so it'll take a few days for us to get back into the routine of a family of four again, but at least I'll have more time for reading I suppose!....And of course he'll be home in about 6 weeks for Christmas...hopefully..not had his leave dates confirmed yet, so fingers and toes crossed again! Janet Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Aww, I hope he does get home for Christmas. Quote
chaliepud Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 Aww, I hope he does get home for Christmas. Thanks Janet! We've been very lucky this time, he had an extra 5 days at the beginning of his leave for his finger operation, and he was supposed to fly back on Sunday but his visa was late coming through so he's going back tomorrow instead, a definite result.. It has been lovely having him home for so long but it is going to be harder to say goodbye again.. :( Quote
poppyshake Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Hope very much Steve is back for Christmas chalie How do you cope getting everything organised by yourself? are you very disciplined etc? I'd be alright with the present shopping I think but the food shop .. I always need help with that (but then I don't drive so that makes a difference.) Sending extra hugs xx Quote
