Karsa Orlong Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Anyone else watching this marvellous series? I have come to two conclusions whilst watching: 1 - Penguins are mad 2 - Killer whales are evil My favourite bit from the series so far: Also, this one. It's amazing but also quite harrowing: Quote
chesilbeach Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I missed the first one, so we've decided to just buy the boxset when it comes out and watch it then, but I have seen the criminal penguin on a trailer for the iPlayer and it made me chuckle Quote
Ooshie Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 My husband and I have been watching this (although we have it on Sky+ so I'm a couple of episodes behind); I think it's a great series. I haven't decided whether to watch the final episode yet, though, which is apparently about global warming and hasn't been sold to countries which don't take the same point of view as the current UK line. Ali9321 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Lol Penguins ARE mad I think they're so fun to watch And killer whales are just trying to get by Although still amazed by the seal "football" footage in Trials of Life! Loving this series - I think those guys were pretty brave being so close to the hungry polar bear (even if the boat full of guns was just out of shot!) Pup really enjoys David Attenborough series! He's woken up to watch most of this series, especially the bits with penguins or wolves. Nothing in this series has beaten his interest in the hissing chamaeleon from the Madagascar series though! LOL Quote
Hayley Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I love this programme! It's the only programme I have to watch every week. I think I have been slightly traumatised by some of the scenes though... And my boyfriend has to sit through an hour of me going 'awwwwww!' every time a baby anything comes on Quote
Weave Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I missed the first few episodes but caught up with them on BBC iplayer I am really enjoying this show, the penguins are fab, I love the criminal penguin and the whales are amazing to watch, at times, its cruel but how they hunt is interesting. Karsa Orlong Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 And killer whales are just trying to get by They're still evil Another bit that really amazed me was that caterpillar that doesn't have enough time to consume enough during the summer to enable it to go into its chrysalis - so it freezes solid when the ice returns, then defrosts and eats a bit more, freezes solid again - and keeps doing that for 14 years until it can finally transform! Isn't nature marvellous? Quote
poppyshake Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 This series is just stunning ... you think you've seen it all (Attenboroughly speaking) and then he amazes you all over again. Love the penguins they're just so funny and I love their nosiness .. they're really not bothered by film crews. Killer Whales are just machines .. they're ruthless! .. it's amazing to watch them in action. All the male supremacy fighting has been tough to watch .. walrus, polar bear, bison, caribou ... it's just all so vicious. It would be much nicer if they said 'sorry old bean but I was here first' Don't watch this series whilst eating your tea though ... bad combination. And my boyfriend has to sit through an hour of me going 'awwwwww!' every time a baby anything comes on all except the baby owl .. man, he was Ug-ly!! Quote
Weave Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) I was awwwwing all over the place with the wolf pups Edited November 29, 2011 by Weave Quote
Hayley Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Haha! Ok agreed baby owl wasn't so cute Wolf pups were definitely one of the cutest, and the baby seals! I love watching the penguins getting out of the water too, they just sort of pop out and belly-flop onto the ice! I wish I had David Attenborough's job... and brain! Quote
Karsa Orlong Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 I love watching the penguins getting out of the water too, they just sort of pop out and belly-flop onto the ice! I had to laugh at the Freeze Frame bit where the Emperor penguins were jumping out of the water straight into the cameraman's lap Quote
pickle Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Did you watch the people who live in these extremes so beautiful...before I die I will see the Aurora Borealis just like that Quote
