rykketid Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I'm a 21-year-old Italian guy living in Florence, Tuscany. I really like learning foreign languages, above all English which for now is the only one that I can master quite well (or at least decently lol :-P); I'm also studying some French but I fear that it will take a long time before I reach a good level of it. I'm here because I have a huge passion for literature and books. I'm especially into English literature and this is the main reason why I signed up to this forum. If you want some tips about Italian literature, don't hesitate to ask me. Bye ^^ Quote

I'm from Ohio,U.S. I don't think I have read many books set in Italy, except possibly The Monster of Florence . I "think" that took place in Italy if my memory is working . I can't think of any other books I have read that are set over there, but would be interested in reading something else from your country . I have one shelf of books that I am collecting of writers from other countries so I can learn about life in other places . I live in the same town I was born in and haven't been fortunate enough to do any major traveling, other than to other states here in the eastern US . Have you ever been here before ,and if so, how did you like it ? Quote

Have you ever been here before ,and if so, how did you like it ? Hello Julie! Well... English literature itself is plenty of novels set in Italy, but if I got it right you would like to read something that is about what modern life is like over here. Correct me if I'm wrong. If so, I will need some time to think about that because I do know a lot of books set in my country but none of them is about contemporary Italy XD Unluckily I've never been in the US so far, I had the chance to travel around Europe only; but I would love to visit the US, in particular NYC and San Francisco which are the cities that fascinate me the most. I hope you will be able to come visit Italy and other European countries in the future because it's really worth it. Likewise I hope I'll visit America :-) Ciao! PS: yes, Monster of Florence should be set in Italy. Quote

julie Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hello Rykketid Yes, I'm sure you'd love NYC and San Francisco . I drove through NYC as a small child ,while traveling up to Niagara Falls with my parents on vacation. All I remember is lots of traffic and huge buildings ! I've never been West any further than Indiana ,so would be no help on SF ,although I have family out in California, that's clear across the country and never yet been there . It looks beautiful though . I'd be interested in even fictional literature about life in your country ,so it would be equally interesting ,even if it's not present day .I like reading any books set elsewhere, just to learn what life is like for other people in other places . I hope you someday get to make your trip over here .You're a young guy with many years ahead to save the money to make the trip someday,so I hope your wish comes true ! Quote
