Hello everyone,

I'm very new to this forum. I have just finished reading "Goblin Wood" by Hilari Bell (a trilogy) and "Darkness of the Light" (The Hidden Earth Chronicles series) by Peter David. I'm about to get the sequel for Goblin Wood, which is "Goblin Gate", then "Goblin Wars" when it comes out on October of this year (Hopefully). But before then, I'd like something to read while I wait.

I'm basically looking for books that has great stories involving non-humans as allies instead of enemies. This involves Goblins, Orcs, Minotaurs, Lizardmen, etc. except Elves since there are much of those already. Books that are in a series are a big plus also so that I always have something to look forward to once I finish a book. The story itself, should, if possible, concentrate on one character's journey and interaction with the other groups. If not, it's ok just as long as it meets the other criteria above. I'm open to suggestions since I have the urge to read these.

For reference, I loved reading the Harry Potter Series, Percy Jackson series, The Ranger's Apprentice series, and the Twilight Series, Goblin Wood (Hilari Bell), Darkness of the Light (Peter David). Most of these (Except Ranger's Apprentice) had some sort of non humans helping them and that's what I'm after. Plus they all had the same story structure I was looking for in a book.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

Hi,

I'm new too. I've been trying to think of books all day for you but havent had time to reply! Anyway, what about lord of the rings or the Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Poalini? If your looking for some thing more vampire/warewolf I've heard that the clockwork angel is ver good (I've not read it myself yet but its on my to read list, I believe its a trilogy too)

Thanks. I was not really interested on the Lord of the Rings especially since I already watched the movie so the thrill of that is kind of gone I think. I have all 3 books and I tried reading the first book multiple times and I can't get past the first few chapters >_<.

I forgot to say also that I was not much into vampire books. Sorry about that. I liked Twilight since it almost had the same story and character structure that I was looking for like in the Harry Potter series.

I was looking at the Inheritance and it seems to be a good start for me. I watched the Eragon movie (before I discovered it was based on a book). I'll try and see if I could get into those. Thanks a lot! That's a good start.

Anyone else think of other books? I'm making a list for myself so I don't run out of things to read. I tend to finish books 1-2 days (yes past midnights hehe) especially if the story is just too darn good.

oh the eragon film was awful! The books are far far better so thats definatly a good one to look at. Also maybe the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud.

Thanks. Those seems to be my cup of tea! I've added them to the lists too!

Yeah, I watched Eragon and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. But I learned from experience that movies and books are never the same in terms of how closely similar they are to each other (talking about the Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Twilight movies). The books are extremely much better than the movies.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks again!

Thanks! Another one added to the list. I read the wiki and it seems to be a great read.

This is great. My list is going along well hehe.

Thanks again! Any other suggestions are welcome.
