Hello I'm Lyn

Hi I'm Lyn and very new to all this - so I'm hoping for a little bit of help please in navigating my way around this site.

I will give you a little bit of info about myself - I'm a married lady with two sons and one stepdaughter who are now out and about in the big wide world. Reading is my passion in life - when I was very small my favourite present from Father Christmas would be four books every year. All the rest of my presents were put to one side untill the books were read. This has continued right through my life and I don't think there has ever been a moment where I haven't had a book on the go. I'm also lucky to work in publishing, in local media where I'm the manager of a local newspaper. I love my job and life in general. Other hobbies include most music, meeting friends down the pub, enjoying the local countryside (I'm lucky to live in a small fishing village in North Devon) and generally socialising.

That's enough from me for now but I hope to chat soon.

Welcome to BCF, I'm sure you'll love it here. :welcome2:

Also, I must say I'm quite envious of the fact you get to manage your local newspaper; I have a huge interest in journalism.

Hi lyn! That's my moms name. :) what kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Hi, Thanks for replying to me _ gosh I love reading almost anything but I think my most favourite are historic fiction e.g. Phillipa Gregory, Alison Weir - I loved Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantell, etc, also historic crime e.g. C.S. Sansom, historic thrillers with a twist e.g. Barbara Erskine, Kate Mosse, Jeam M. Auel, George R.R. Martin plus all crime and thrillers e.g. Steig Larsson, Jo Nesbo, Nicki French, Mark Billingham, James Patterson - I could go on and on and on. I have just finished A Suitbale Boy by Vikram Seth which I have had for about ten years. It was amazing - I couldn't put it down. I'm just finishing the Distant Hours by Kate Morton which I hae enjoyed. What about you?

Welcome Lyn, it would be great to hear more about your reading! :)

Hello Lyn! :welcome2:

Hi Claire - I've just read your book list and gosh am I impressed! How do you get the time to read so much? I grab every five minutes that I can but I'm still nowhere near up to your level. Also I though I was quite knowledgeable on books, but more than half of the books on your list I haven't even heaqrd of - please tell me more!

Hi Ben,

Thanks for replying. I suppose I am lucky in my job, but I control the boring senior stiff like the finances, staff etc. and don't get involved in the content of the paper unless it's a complaint but it's still good.

It's a compulsion - I read in the evenings and weekends, plus during my lunch break, waiting in the car when picking someone up, even while I'm drying my hair!

Which books or authors on my reading list would you like to know about?

Kate Johnson, Jasper Fforde, Chloe Neill
.

Kate Johnson is a new author to me recently. She writes chick-lit style books, but with a twist usually, for example, her Sophie Green series is about a young woman who works for in an airport who gets caught up in an undercover intelligence case and goes on to work for a top secret government agency as a spy. I downloaded the books to my Kindle, but I think they're available in paperback as well, although not very easy to get hold of.

Jasper Fforde is a favourite on the forum, and writes humorous, fantasy crime novels - now there's a genre you don't see much of! He's got a few series on the go, the most popular of which is the Thursday Next series. The blurb for the first book in the series, The Eyre Affair is "There is another 1985, somewhere in the could-have-been, where the Crimean war still rages, dodos are regenerated in home-cloning kits and everyone is deeply disappointed by the ending of 'Jane Eyre'. In this world there are no jet-liners or computers, but there are policemen who can travel across time, a Welsh republic, a great interest in all things literary - and a woman called Thursday Next." If you want to find out more, there's a thread dedicated to him on the forum here --> http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/437-jasper-fforde

Chloe Neill is another new to me author, who I came across again on my Kindle, and she writes urban fantasy type novels. So far I've read her Chicagoland Vampire series, which are in the same vein as Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels, light-hearted, fun, vampire mysteries. These are much more easily available in paperback - I've seen them in Waterstone's.

I live in the Eastern part of Finland, quite close to the Russian border. Joensuu is one of the 10 university cities/towns in Finland. I like it, too, that there are so many people from so many different countries and continents on this forum, keeps things interesting :smile2:
