Easy Reader Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 Day 29 – A book everyone hated but you liked I can't think of one at the moment. I guess I only really pick up books and that have been popular or that I haven't really heard much about not so keen on trying books that haven't gone down well. Quote
Easy Reader Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Day 30 – Your favourite book of all time Notes from an Exhibition - Patrick Gale Quote
Easy Reader Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) I have re read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J K Rowling I enjoyed this book some much better the second time round to the point where I have only been reading about 10 pages a time to savour it and make it last. I have also finished reading it just in time to watch the film on tv next weekend (I haven't seen this one yet) so thats excellent timing. Edited July 25, 2011 by Easy Reader Quote
Easy Reader Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 To The Nines - Janet Evanovich a great little fun easy to read book will definietly read more of hers re-read The Goblet of Fire - J K Rowling I enjoyed this one much better the second time around it wasn't as drawn out as I remember it being. Currently putting off re-reading The Order of the Pheonix but thats mainly due to its size and the fact it is my least favourtie HP but having seen the film for the first time last weekend I am now ready to start it. Something Rotten - Jasper Fforde My new favourtie Jasper Fforde. I really enjoyed this the 4th in the series I laughed out loud a lot I even re-read immediately some of the jokes this time as they were so good. I was a little disappointed with the ending but not so much that it spoiled my enjoyment of it. Quote
Sofia Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 To The Nines - Janet Evanovich a great little fun easy to read book will definietly read more of hers I love the Stephanie Plumb series Quote
Easy Reader Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 Eleven on Top - Janet Evanovich Another Stephanie Plum book which I enjoyed just as much as the other one although I realise they are all going to be quite samey so I am trying to hold myself back by not reading them too close to eachother - this one left me wanting to eat cake, lots and lots of cake. One Day - David Nicholls Wasn't what I was expecting but I still enjoyed it I just wish I could have enjoyed it a tiny bit more I think if Dexter had been a bit nicer than he was they I would be putting it down as one of my all time favourite books but he wasn't so I wont and also he wouldn't be Dexter if he was nicer Quote
Easy Reader Posted September 5, 2011 Author Posted September 5, 2011 First Among Sequels - Jasper Fforde 5th book in the series which had my head spinning a little bit at the end and it very nearly made me want to read some poetry. Going to have a bit of a break now until the 6th book is avaiable in paperback started re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird on saturday. I first read this years ago when I was a teenager and I really didn't like it and several people have since told me to read it again which I have been intending to do for quite some time. So this satruday I picked it up and started reading I am sort of enjoying it but am having a little bit of trouble getting into the writting style however I didn't pick it up yesterday and am not that keen to read it today either but I shall persevere. I have looked on here for threads for both books to see what others have said about them but I cannont find any can someone please point me in the right direction ? Janet Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 There is a thread about To Kill a Mockingbird here (I didn't actually answer Kell's questions for some reason!). There doesn't seem to be a specific thread for The Remains of the Day. Quote
Easy Reader Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Only recently started reading Agatha Christie and now five books down I am wondering why I never read her before I could be re-reading thm by now had I realised I would enjoy them so much Evil Under the Sun I decided to start with a Poirot as I had never watched any on tv so but not long after starting reading this one I soon realised I had actually seen this one . I remembered how it was done but I couldn't remember who done it and I accussed the wrong person throughout. I also found that poirot isn't nearly as annoying as I had thought he would be. 4:50 From Paddington A Miss Marple that I knew I had watched on tv but did't remember who did it until that character appeared in the book. Still really enjoyed reading it and had forgotten many of the details along the way. Death on the Nile Another Poirot. I found this one a bit harder to get to grips with as wasn't familiar with it from the screen so it took a while remembering the characters in it. I pointed the finger of blame at everyone apart from who actually did it. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was so excited when this appeared in the book group section as really wanted to read another AC (I am trying not to read them so close togheter as I don't want to get bored of them but its really hard not to pick up another) and I actually worked out who did early on but saying that I wouldn't have been at all surprised if my theory turned out to be wrong its so well written that it really could have been anyone. And Then There Were None I really ejoyed reading this one but now I have finished I am not really sure what to make of it. I didn't bother trying to work out who did it as I knew I would just end up blaming everyone including people who aren't even in the book. It certainly was different to the others I have read. I am now determind to read all her books I have printed off a list to tick them off as I go. I will chose the next few by picking out random ones at the library. Quote
Easy Reader Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 Cards on the Table - Agatha Christie Another Poirot this time someone is murdered unnoticed while there are four other people in the room. I suspected all four of them on rotation as AC would have wanted me to. There were a few references to some of her other books in this one so I think I missed other references too so kind of wish I had read lots more of hers before reading this one. Quote
Ooshie Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was the first Agatha Christie book I had ever read; for some reason I hadn't expected to enjoy her writing but I really did, and will definitely read more in future. Quote
Easy Reader Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Memoirs of a Fruitcake - Chris Evans I wasn't really that fond of Chris Evans before reading his books as I found he was a bit full of himself but I really enjoyed reading both of his autobiography's I found it very freshing to find someone who is so full of life and so positive about everything and everyone (anything slightly negative was quickly dealt with a no names were mentioned. I just wish I could have such a positive outlook on life and do things without worrying about the consquences all the time. Quote
Easy Reader Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 Well I am feeling pretty pleased with myself I started the year with the challege of reading 52 books (previous high total being 40) and today Ihave finished my 54th finished with a re-read of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - my least favourite of the HP's I think I read it to quickly before as I didn't really follow it this time around I had a large break from it in the middle a few months back and the other day I realised I could set myself the challenge of finishing it before the new year. I am glad that I have re read it it wasn't as bad as I remember it being although I do still feel its unnecessarily long. Quote
