runner Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I want to read something different in horror ie getting away from king koontz etc...what can you recommend? I have seen three that appeal? what do you think? Meat by Joseph D'Lacey The Garbage Man by Joseph D'Lacey? Horns by Joe Hill What else is worth a read?...I really want to be thoughtfully scarred  Quote
Mac Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 What else is worth a read?...I really want to be thoughtfully scarred  I've got some stories that would psychologically scar you...have you tried any Peter Straub? He's good. Or...erm...James Herbert? You could try The Dark. That gave me the willy's. Or you could try The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - this is absolutely brilliant. They certainly scared me! James Herbert is a good horror writer, I still think Stephen King tops them all though, especially his early stuff Quote
runner Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 these are the old favourites....and I've read most if not all...what about new, different or American authors? Quote
Pixie Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I can think of quite a few you might like. I am not a fan of Dean Koontz or Stephen King, by the way. Some of their stuff is just okay for me. Here are some classics: The Turn of the Screw by Henry James Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Brabury The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson Hell House by Richard Matheson The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty Newer, less known, but still excellent: Ghost Writer by John Harwood Ghost Story by Peter Straub The Girl in a Swing by Richard Adams Neverland by Douglas Clegg Quote
Michelle Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Have you tried Bill Hussey or Adam Nevill? Quote
