Hank Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Hello All I've just found this site, it's pretty awesome. My name is Hank, I love reading books, I also love food! My favourite book is Atlas Shrugged (it took a very long time to read) and the last book I finished was The Halo Effect (not usually my style of book, but quite interesting). Just wanted to say introduce myself! Quote
Kylie Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Hi Hank and welcome! What a coincidence - I'm reading Atlas Shrugged right now, for the first time. I have about 100 or so pages to go, and I love it. Quote
Amesy Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Mange tou, my good man. Welcome to the forums. Quote
Hank Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Thanks all for the introductions. Hi Hank and welcome! What a coincidence - I'm reading Atlas Shrugged right now, for the first time. I have about 100 or so pages to go, and I love it. Kylie how are you finding it? It took me almost a year to finish the book (mostly reading at night in bed for an hour or so at a time). Quote
Kylie Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it really interesting and thought-provoking. I watched a book club show on TV last night and they reviewed Atlas Shrugged. Four out of the five people really hated it. Quote

I watched a book club show on TV last night and they reviewed Atlas Shrugged. Four out of the five people really hated it. That's a shame, Kylie! Can I ask why the majority hated it? I think a book can only be good when it's thought-provoking! Quote
Kylie Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 They disliked the repetitiveness of everything and the fact that all the 'good' characters were practically the same person because they were so similar, and the same for the 'bad' characters. I completely understand but I think the ideas and plot made up for it. They also dissed Rand's philosophy and made it sound completely ridiculous (whereas I kind of liked it ). Quote
