TheNinthWord Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Hello! I'm new here, and I can't wait to get involved in some of the discussions and get to know some other book lovers! I'm originally from Nottingham, and have moved to Birmingham for university (studying English Literature, of course!). I love reading nearly everything, but my favourite genre is Fantasy. I'm always looking for new books to read, so I'll be using these forums to help me pick them out. So that's me in a very small nutshell. I'm excited to discuss books and literature with everybody! Pixie Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Welcome to the forum. I am a fantasy fan myself. Who are some of your favorite fantasy authors? Quote
TheNinthWord Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Thanks for the warm welcome! It's good to see a few fantasy fans around, and I'll definitely come to you when I need recommendations. bunnybooks: Excellent stuff! Which authors do you like to read? Pixie: My favourite authors at the moment are Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Neil Gaiman, and Susanna Clarke. How about yourself? And I see you're reading Murakami. Any good? I read After Dark last year and really enjoyed it. Quote

And I see you're reading Murakami. Any good? I read After Dark last year and really enjoyed it. My favorite fantasy authors are Peter S. Beagle, Lord Dunsany, Robin Hobb, Guy Gavriel Kay, Patricia McKillip, and Tad Williams. I hope I haven't forgotten any good ones. I haven't read Susanna Clarke yet but she is in my TBR pile. I loved Kafka on the Shore by Murakami. I will have to read more by this author. He may end up being a favorite of mine! Quote
Roland Butter Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Hi, and welcome to the Forum! Just out of interest - what were the other eight words? Quote
TheNinthWord Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Ooh, more welcomes! Thank you! Pixie: I'm feeling like I haven't read enough now. Considering I study English Lit, I'm a fairly slow reader. Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a fantastic book. I haven't read another quite like it. Roland Butter: I haven't thought of those words yet... The Ninth Word just had a nice ring to it. Also... how do I change my status? Is is something I have to wait until I've posted 10 times to do? I read After Dark last year and really enjoyed it. I like Herve Jubert for Dance of the assassins and Devils tango though I did read those a few years ago now. Stephanie Meyer, I don't really need to say what for I like Barb and J.C.Hendee for the Dhampir series. Terry Pratchett is an obvious one. I don't tend to look for a specific author unless I'm reading a series, The only time I might do this is when I'm looking through the other works section at the back of the book and something catches my eye. I might like one book but then dislike another by the same author. I'm just wierd I guess. Quote
