Help With A Book Title

I hope you will be able to help me. I am looking for the title of a series of books and an individual book, I read when I was a kid.

 

1) As far as I can remember the series, was a story of some mice that went on an adventure to find something called a moonstone. I believe it was based in India before the mice journeyed to the UK. It was made into a television series that was shown on the BBC.

 

2) The individual book was about a young boy during world war 2. I'm not sure but it I think it was set on Guernsey. I also believe the boy took a machine gun from an aircraft that had been shot down and put it in a den he had built, as he wanted to fight the Germans.

 

I know this is not a lot of information, but any help would be appreciated, as I am starting to think I am going mad

The individual book sounds like The Machine Gunners by Robert Westall.

Bizarrely, I was thinking about the first book you mention very recently.

 

It's 'The Heartstone Odyssey' by Arvan Kumar.

 

I have only ever read the first of the series 'Chandra's Story'. I don't even know the name of the others.
