I find myself in urgent need of investigating Mieville's mind for excitingly mysterious reasons  what's a good book of his to begin with?

I have only read a couple of his The Kraken and The Scar and enjoyed both The Kraken was slightly better but I have been tempted by UnLundun as this looks very interesting, the blurb says its a YA book but his writing is complex enought to not just be run of the mill.

UnLunDun was the one actually calling to me loudest so far, I find that good YA books tend to wipe the floor with a lot of supposedly mature fiction so that doesn't put me off in the slightest...!

I have 'The City and The City' on my TBR pile, bought after I had read Andy's (I think) description of it as a nomination for a Reading Circle read.

I started with Perdido Street Station, which was excellent, highly recommended. Both The Scar and Iron Council are set in the same universe but aren't direct sequels.

I have just finished UnLundun and I loved it, it is written for YA but its well written, not as intricate or complex as the adult books but he manages to create an intersting world where broken bits from our world seep through.

Oooh, sounds Neverwhereish - and as Neverwhere is one of my favourite books, I think I'll start with that :D thank you!

Sounds great Pickle. I'm wondering if I should start with this one as well, but I already have 3 others of his on my TBR pile so maybe I should just get on with those.
