~Andrea~ Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 So glad to hear you enjoyed this Janet as I have it sitting on the shelf. I much prefer the grown-up Chris to the younger version, who really used to get on my nerves. Part of the reason I wanted to read it was he sounds like a man who's been on a journey. Looking even more forward to it now! Great review. Quote
Janet Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 I shall look forward to hearing your thoughts - I hope you enjoy it. Quote
Easy Reader Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I got given this for Christmas but wasn't acutally that interested but thought seeing as how I have got it I may as well read it and I am glad I did. I really enjoyed the writing style and the general "feel good" nature of the book even when writing about lower moments or when talking about people he probably didn't like that much he handled them with sensitivity and was generally very positive about everything. In his writing Chris isn't at all self absorbed as I was expecting him to be. Looking forward to reading the second instalment. 9/10 Quote
ian Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Chris was always in the news, and, frankly came across as something of an idiot, so I was disappointed to hear that he was taking over from Johnnie Walker on the radio 2 drivetime programme. I neednt have worried though - I loved it! Clearly this was a man who had grown up! Exactly the reaction I had at the time, Janet! I was really hoping they would give the gig to Stuart Maconie. I saw this book in my local library last time I was in there. I'll pick this up next time I see it Ian Quote
Janet Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 I like Stuart Maconie too - he'd be better on Drivetime than Simon Mayo. I quite fancy trying one of Maconie's books at some stage. Quote
chesilbeach Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Although I don't often read autobiographies or memoirs, I think I'll give this one a go at some point. I've always been entertained by Chris Evans, starting back with The Big Breakfast and adored TFI Friday, as well as the Breakfast shows radio, and I think this will be an interesting read for me. Btw, Janet, you should read Maconie's books - they're excellent! I've read the first three, and I spotted a new one in the book shop the other day, so I'm excited to get hold of a copy for myself Quote
Janet Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I've seen Pies and Prejudice quite a few times in charity shops (but not Cider with Roadies, which I think may have been Maconie's first book? I'm definitely going to look out for them now, thanks, Claire. Quote
