Chrissy Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I remember this book! I loved this many years ago. I must dig it out for a re read. Quote
chesilbeach Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I got given a lovely 50th anniversary hardback edition of this for Christmas a few years ago. I agree with you, Janet, that it does feel a little bit dated, and I suspect it actually appeals more to the older reader now rather than the original 10-14 year old, but also like you, I would heartily recommend it to everyone here (knowing what discerning readers we all are ) Quote
pickle Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 The minute I read the name it rang a bell might have to dig it out I might have read it in school. Did he write anything else? Quote
chesilbeach Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 He wrote quite a lot according to fantasticfiction, although I have to admit, I've never heard of him other than associated with this book, but most of his work seems to be a bit before my time. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/ian-serraillier/ Quote
iguana Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I have it for my English reading and I find it quite good. I think my favorite character is Jan because he likes pets, and second is Bistro the monkey because I think he is funny - having a passion for cigarettes. Quote
