SueK Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I'm thinking of embarking on a few of Georges Simenon's books. I haven't read any of his books before but as I love novels that take place in France (ie the Jacquot detective ones) I thought I would start with one or two of the Maigret stories and perhaps one or two of his so called "hard novels". Does anyone have a good starting point that they could recommend. I notice that there is a dramatization of "Sunday" on Radio 4 this afternoon so I might tune in if I am able. Thanks:) Quote
SueK Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 Maybe some of the comments here will help Thanks Vladd. I was actually looking at that page before writing here:D It's very helpful but as always I like to get the opinions of my fellow BCF pals. Quote
pickle Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I have read quite a few Maigrait, and a couple of Simeon's other books, one of the ones I remember as being very good if a little odd is Uncle Charles. If you like French detectives also try out Fred Vargas her books are very very good. Quote
Vladd Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) Another French detective to check out is Pel in the Inspector Pel books by Mark Hebden and then after his death by his daughter Juliet Edited May 11, 2010 by Vladd Quote
dave165 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I picked up Strangers in the House recently at the library. It ws the first of his I have read and I did enjoy it. There are certainly plenty of his books to choose from! Quote
