SueK Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Has anyone read this? It was written in 1798 and is a classic "gothic festival of sex, magic and ghastly ghostly violence rarely seen in literature" as the back cover describes it. Amazingly this book wasn't censored, more it was classed as sensationalist literature and is very modern in style. I got it this morning from Amazon and will hold myself in readyness for this one - sounds likes it could be quite a rollercoaster:D:readingtwo: Quote
Kell Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Ooh, this is one of the so-called "Horrid Novels" mentioned in Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. I've been thinking about reading those horrid novels, so I'll eagerly await your report of how good (or not) this is! Quote

It may be a short while before I report back on it Kell as I have one or two to read before I embark on this. But I will def report back. Quote
frankie Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 The reason why I bought this book some time ago was exactly because it was "one of the so-called "Horrid Novels" mentioned in Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey" I also bought Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho. Too bad I haven't had time to read them yet Quote
Kell Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 You have Udolpho as well? Ooh, I can hardly wait to hear what you think of them! Quote
frankie Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Yep I do! It might be a while though before I read the books, I have sooo many novels waiting to be read... Quote
