Who are your favourite illustrators for this timeless classic?!

I've got a lovely edition that Peter Weevers illustrates

I have a beautiful hardback copy of The Nursery Alice, which I was given as a gift for my sixth birthday. It's still in very good condition as I loved it so much I was always extra-specially careful with it (it's one of the books that taught me to love all books so much and treat them swith respect!). It's illustrated by Sir John Tenniel, although the cover was illustrated by E Gertrude Thomson. And yes, that is my own copy in the photo. :D

I had the complete edition of Alice in Wondrrland when I was little illustrated by John Tenniel

Tenniel illustrations.

I like the original art primarily because it is so recognizable. There have been better illustrators who have worked on the characters (and in better produced books over the years) though the original art is somehow more special. The paper quality of those early books is inferior, so the exact reprints (from the eighties?) are currently the best versions of the book available.

Thanks for posting that link, BigWords. I couldn't think what the Tenniel illustrations were, but now I recognise them. :D

My edition, which I have had for around 20 years, has been illustrated by Eric Kincaid, and he based his illustrations of Alice on the original inspiration for the story, Alice Liddell. I found this blog that has some of the pictures from the books. I quite like them. :)

You wouldn't believe how many cool Alice stuff I have links for. :)

There are also dingbats of Tenniel's illustrations, but I don't seem to have that link on this laptop.
