Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Ok, we had to read this for school. Even Steven King said he loved this book (it was his choice of book that changed his life?) but i guess i just didn't understand it? Was there an undercover meaning or something? It was sooo hard to get through this book for me!

I read this book maybe a year ago and found it utterly boring and totally overrated. And really difficult to get through, just like you said. I've never actually met anyone who's truly enjoyed reading that book

Welcome to the forum by the way, and happy reading in 2010!

2. All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy

Yes! I enjoyed this book very much:) I like the hint of romance and the adventure. It got a bit gory (i hate scary things!) when he was burning out his bullet wound. I love horses, and i'm in spanish so, wohoo!

I had to read Lord of the Flies in school 25 years ago, and I still remember how tedious I found it. I can't believe it's still on the curriculum and being inflicted on you today.

Ha! And I thought I was the only one who didn't enjoy Lord of the Flies. Like Frankie, I found it really overrated.

And welcome to the forum.

I don't think ANYONE really enjoys Lord of the Flies. I tried to read it years ago and vowed I'd never go near it again, despite not finishing it. I think it was actually one of the very first (if not actually the first) book I didn't finish and it's one of very few of those early ones I don't regret not finishing!

I enjoyed the film though.

You might be right - one of my friends and I disagree on nearly every book we've both read, but this one united us!

3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Ohmygosh! I think this is the best book I have ever read! Not going to lie! My favorites so far are The Road, Ender's Game, and now this is added to the list:) i love how it was unpredictable and had amazing meaning behind it. Ugh, I have to watch the movie now (for school) and it makes me so mad! I have how the characters should look in my head and now they are making me change my views! haha!
