Peacefield Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I would give the LJ Smith books the same ratings, Nicola. I have #3 up next too so we'll see how it goes . Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Books 5-8 do merge a bit, but I like the last one with Sookie's relatives (to speak in code ). Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Do you also find Elena to be a really annoying? She's all self self self! I also think that if the books were extended a little and given a bit more substance, they could be really good. For example, her relationship with Stefan seems to be really rushed and although it's supposed to be this all-consuming love, I'm not too convinced. It's hardly Bella and Edward is it!! Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Books 5-8 do merge a bit, but I like the last one with Sookie's relatives (to speak in code ). Me too! Those pesky relatives! I can't wait for Dead in the Family. Hopefully Bill gets lost in a really deep hole and Eric moves in! Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Elena and Stefan is too rushed, one minute he "hates" her and backs away, the next he's down a well and feeding from her . Give me Damon anyday - even "evil" tv show Damon. Ian Somehalder = yummy. Ok I'm going to stop and back away from this thread now. PS. I can't wait for Dead in the Family Quote

I can't wait for Dead in the Family What is it with evil vampire types? It is too rushed isn't it. I think a chapter or two of drawn out flirting would've done the trick. You can't go from hating someone, to lookin at them once in class, to falling totally and deeply in love with them . Another thing that really does my head in are the predictable 'who done its'. Elena, Bonnie and Meredith are far too slow on the uptake. Why am I reading these books again?? Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 But Elena has no redeeming features for me. All the way through the first one she's all me,me,me, spiteful. Then all of a sudden she goes from just wanting Stefan to being madly in love. I honestly think that these writers put some kind of drug in the paper which makes you want to read on. Because if I stop and analyse for too long, I think the books are rubbish Vampire Diaries, Twilight = not great writing but a really addictive story. Charlaine Harris is a fantastic writer though Nicola - did you get that copy of Dead to the World that you wanted? Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Charlaine Harris is such a good writer isn't she. I've read that series a few times now and it never gets dull. Unlike Twilight which I skipped through on a second reading and if I ever suggest re-reading these Vampire Diaries please shoot me! I'll deserve it! Oooooh yeah the Valentine Fairy decided I needed that cover in my life It's stood up on display in my living room Obsessed is probably a word I'd use right now!! Eeeeek! (You'll have to buy it too then I won't feel quite so ridiculous!! haaaaa! ) Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Aww no fair. That means you now have Alex Skarsgard in your living room I might have to buy it so I don't get jealous. (and yes I'm obsessed too, my mam even knows who he is and she's never seen TB ) I should have just sent you my copies of Vampire Diaries because I can't see me ever rereading them (except maybe skipping to the Damon parts, yes I'm that sad ). That being said, I do skip quite a bit of the Sookie books to get to the Eric bits All that carry on with the shapeshifters bores me after a while. Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 If Alex Skarsgard really was in my living room right now I'd probably faint! Then make him a cup of tea....it's only polite Eeeee I skip to the Eric bits sometimes too....they're just better! I hope the next book is going to gives everyone answers about why Eric didn't rescue Sookie . Was it the blood bond? Was it because he was having a lie-in? Getting his hair done? Who knows! I've just been reading on wikipedia about book 5 in the Vampire Diaries series. The synopsis and plot in general sound crazy! Literally! I think someone had too many e-numbers while writing it myself Quote
Peacefield Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I agree about Elena; I must admit I like her character on the TV show much better than the book version. She was downright obnoxious in them! What episode of the show are you guys up to now in the UK? Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 You're totally right, TV Elena is much nicer. If they'd kept Elena how she was in the books I can't imagine many people tuning in to watch. I've lost count but I think we get to see episode 4 tomorrow? Last week was the episode with the dinner party where Damon shows up being all dangerous and up to no good. Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I had completely forgot about that bit with Eric. But he did promise he would explain, I hope he has a good reason Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 He better have a good reason or we'll be hunting him down! Speaking of men who better have a good reason, have you heard that Ashley Cole has sent other naked photos to yet another model type woman? Why that lad can't keep it in his pants when he's married to such a beautiful woman is beyond me Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Yep. I don't know what goes through these guys heads: him, Vernon Kay, John Terry, Tiger Woods. Have you seen the wives? There's no hope for the rest if they look like that and can't stop their man straying I love that this has turned into a gossip thread You're a bad influence Nicola! Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Eeeee I know!!!! Eeeeek! On a more book related topic () I've sent BF into town to buy the next set of Vampire Diaries for me. Another one bites the dust! Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I bet he was chuffed having to go and buy that I've just ordered Interview With A Vampire I've wanted to read this for so long but never got around to it. I do love the movie though (Brad Pitt...ok I'll stop ). I bout Queen of the Damned months ago because it was cheap (Don't you just love The Works Bookshop ) but still don't own the first two which is pretty pointless Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Well he asked if I'd help him write a letter for a job interview so I said I would on the condition that he bought the book. Haaaa! And who says women aren't cunning!! Ah I loved Interview With the Vampire. It's such a brilliant book! Probably mu favourite out of all the Vampire Chronicles I've read so far. The Vampire Lestat was hard to get into at first but once it got going it was great, Queen of the Damned is great too! My favourite after Interview would be Tale of the Body Thief. It's totally different from the first three books and more like a crime-solving who-done-it. I'd love to hear what you think of IWTV when you read it Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 To be honest, I think you got the rough end of the deal. You have to write a letter while he just has to sneak into HMV and hide it behind another book or a DVD Just as long as he doesn't come back with the first one again and you end up with two copies Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 That would almost be as bad as two copies of A Touch of Dead!! I would definitely be heading straight back there for a refund! Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I wouldn't mind if it was free Stupid Amazon, I'm sure I didn't put two in the basket. But now it's been too long to send it back. I'll just have to wait until it's someone's birthday then fob it off on them. Doesn't really matter if they haven't read the rest. I have, and I didn't know where I was at with it Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 I didn't realise you bought both copies! I thought you'd been given them as gifts That pesky Amazon has a lot to answer for!! When my BFs best friend was in 6th form, he decided that he really wanted a certain computer game so he went for 2 months without lunch so he could save the money and buy the game. After 2 months he rushed out and bought it, only to realise when he got home that he already owned it!!! Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 What??? How do you do that? Was it an enhanced version or exactly the same game? No, I bought them both. And I think they were Quote
Nicola Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Nope it was exactly the same game! Mind you....he's not the sharpest tool in the box. This is the lad who was given a Quote
