Some interesting bookcases and shelves HERE but I'm not sure how practical some of them are

I love the 'interesting bookcase' that takes up a whole wall ... though I think it might mess with my brain having them all slanted sideways (it doesn't take much!) .. fantastic though.

Well this isn't particularly modern, but it's fairly practical for people who like reading in the bath.

I have a wire bath rack almost just like that one. You are so right -- It looks really primitive, BUT I will say that I bunked out almost $100 for a really nice bath rack one time, and it was super heavy, really difficult to move around, hard to store, and got in the way more often than not. I eventually got sick of dealing with it and bought one just like the link for $25 at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and it functioned waaaaay better. Sometimes, simple is better, apparently!

I put one of these on my birthday wishlist Janet and got one yesterday...it is fab. I haven't used it yet but have just fitted it to a book this morning to try it out and it gives a lovely light on the book. Thanks for the link.:D

Oh I got a pink one, not sure if it was just because the link I gave hubby had the pink one, or whether it was the only colour they had. I would probably have chosen another colour, but not to worry :D

I have a metal book-holder so I can stand a hardback in it while I'm eating. And I bought a Barnes & Noble booklight, but noticed the thing starts getting dim within an hour, and the batteries are expensive!!

Not a gadget, as such, but I love this map of London that uses literary names for everything.

From the website:

'A street map made up from the titles of over 600 books from the history of English Literature (and a few favourites from further afield). The Map includes classics such as Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Bleak House, Vanity Fair and Wuthering Heights as well as 20th and 21st Century works such as The Waste Land, To the Lighthouse, Animal Farm, Slaughterhouse 5, The Catcher in the Rye, The Wasp Factory, Norwegian Wood and The Road.   The Map, which is loosely based on a turn of the century London street map also includes fictional areas dedicated to the works of Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, Tolkien, Harry Potter and a children's literature district featuring such classics as The Railway Children, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Where the Wild Things Are. There's an A-Z key at the base of the Map listing all the books featured along with the author's name and the date first published.'
