Pablo Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Cold, frozen and terrified. Food hard to come by. Wildlife extremely hostile. Scurvy rife, cannabalism a growing option. Wish you were here. Join the crew of the ships, Terror and the Erebus, bound in ice for 3 years while searching for the north-west passage in 1845. Survival never looked so appealing! 'The Terror' by Dan Simmons. Quote
Talisman Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Not my cup of tea - give me the real thing any time - icerbergs, thermal underwear and Inuit ! Quote
Dusky Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 While I haven't personally read it, my boyfriend is halfway through and he seems to be enjoying it a great deal. I might steal it from him when he's done. Quote
Mac Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I'd love to have a holiday in the Arctic Circle - in fact, I think we're taking our Explorer Scouts up there on a camp next year, which should be fun! Quote
Brian Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 The Terror was recommended to me by my brother, I enjoyed it. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially considering how long it is, but it's certainly a gripping read, knowing it is based on true events. Quote
