bubbleprincess
Wow! this forum seems to have lots of reading lists. I'm new to the forum so....I'm going to devise my own list and maybe I could get other suggestions as well as to what to read. The books that I have read this year are: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest- Ken Kesey Jane Eyre- Charlotte Bronte Watermelon- Marian Keyes 1984- George Orwell Thursday Next Series- Jasper Fforde The Virgin & The Gipsy- D.H. Lawrence Wide Sargasso Sea- Jean Rhys The Landscapes of Ephemera Duology- Anne Bishop Vanity Fair- William Makepeace Thackeray and heaps more that I don't even remember.....lol Yeah, if anyone has any suggestions as to what to read next, by no means reply to this thread. Chrissy
Hello bubbleprincess! Welcome to the forum! Looks like a well rounded list so far- have you enjoyed all of them? Believe me when I say you will not need to ask for too many recommendations - just reading the threads will make your To Be Read pile increase in a matter of days! You've got a good variety in your list, any favourite genres?
bubbleprincess
yeah I have enjoyed all of them although I had to read Vanity Fair twice to get the gist of the story and visualize the characters. I don't have a favourite genre, but one genre that I don't like very much is Sci-Fi. Don't mind films but I just can't read the books. Kylie
Hi Kristin It looks like we have similar taste in books. What did you think of Wide Sargasso Sea? I read that and The Eyre Affair right after reading Jane Eyre. I liked The Eyre Affair but was really disappointed by Wide Sargasso Sea. Does two readings of Vanity Fair mean that you enjoyed it? I've had it on my TBR pile for quite a while and am really looking forward to reading it, but other books always get in the way!
bubbleprincess
Yeah I was really disappointed with Wide Sargasso Sea as well. I thought it was the anti-Jane Eyre and would talk about Rochester as the anti-hero but it just didn't sink in as much.
bubbleprincess
Oh and Vanity Fair was alright, wasn't my cup of tea but was quite fun to read because of the anti-heroine sort of diverted me from the heroine who is always gentle and kind.
