hume Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) If this book is (as it's title suggest) about women in love, then it's also about the way in which a person arrives at love's door; from the blithe and humble beginnings of 'lustlove at first sight' to the arduous self sacrificial aspect of a relationship. Lawrence traverses the whole spectrum. giving us glimpses through Ursula and Gerald's parent's of what love in antiquity may provide. Ultimately this book is a rejection of the old ideals and the testing of the waters of the new. I must point out to the would be reader, fair sections of this book read like a mills and boon novel. Exhausted, the last 60 pages felt like pushing a car uphill with it's handbrake on. I'm certain, this isn't for anyone, expecting literary excellence.
