Ben Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Good mix (I'm head of humanities so a bit biased!) Haha well my careers adviser said it was a good mix. Quote
Louiseog Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 And careers advisers are never wrong! (careers are in my faculty too) Therapy by Sebastian Fitzek, very scarey and twisty ace. Thanks Michelle! Quote

Chimera Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Anne Frank Remembered: The Story of the Woman Who Helped to Hide the Frank Family by Miep Gies and Alison Leslie GoldGreat story very sad and what a brave woman! Oh, did you enjoy this then? I'd love to hear your thoughts as it's one of my all time favourites but I've hardly ever come across people having read it. Quote
Louiseog Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Was it you who recommended it, because it was great. Just found her an inspirational woman who gave meat to the story of Ann Frank who I have read since about 10 years old! Astonishing to find out how the Dutch reacted to the Nazis and her and her husband were incredible, so young and so responsible (wrong word). Don't often read non fiction but this was fabulous. Quote
Chimera Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I did review it on the forum some time ago. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. I dont know how many times I took it out of the library... It's actually a book I'd love to steal out of there (even though I now have my own copy) as I loved it so much. Like you I was amazed by Miep and her friends' bravery and selflesness. I also found her personal journey (starting as a kid after WW1) really interesting. Quote
Louiseog Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Rebecca Tope A Cotswold Killing, OK Quite underwhelmed somehow, thought it would be more fun somehow never got to know the characters and really understand what was going on! Edited January 31, 2009 by Louiseog Quote

I read this earlier this week - awesome book, fantastic description of the bookshop, and heartbreaking study of loneliness. Quote
Louiseog Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) I read this earlier this week - awesome book, fantastic description of the bookshop, and heartbreaking study of loneliness. Loneliness yes, made me feel very bleak. Reginald Hill Death of Daziel, great story but having read lots of this series am a bit bothered about the chronology. The characters appear to have changed relationships, I thought Peter Pascoe was divorced, that his wife was in the US and that she had had another child but they appear to be back together. Maybe I'm getting confused with the telly! Edited February 7, 2009 by Louiseog Quote
Louiseog Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 Finished this and thought it was ace, a really clever turn around about terrorism. Agatha Raisin and the Spoonful of Poison already great Quote

Louiseog Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Light and good fun, this was a fast moving story although it was obvious what would happen it was still good. Quote
Louiseog Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Human Croquet was good, think I like Kate Atkinson, very confusing and then it all comes together in a sensible conclusion. Quote
