Richard and Judy have announced their 2009 books.

We already know that these choices drive the bestsellers list. I always start off not fancying any of their choices but then reading two or three!

When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson

The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite by Beatrice Colin

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff

The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway

The Brutal Art by Jesse Kellerman (link to hardcover edition - paperback appears to be released on 2 April 2009?)

Netherland by Joseph O'Neill

The Bolter by Frances Osbourne

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher by Kate Summerscale

December by Elizabeth H Winthrop

So which, if any, do you plan to buy?

Netherland and Mr Whicher have been on my "to buy" list, for sure.

And say what you like about the merits or otherwise of the Richard and Judy list, but it certainly means you'll be able to get a deal on these books!

Oh for sure! Last year, WHS did lots of 'buy one R&J book, get another free' offers, as did Waterstone's.

I haven't read the 'blurb' about the books yet so I'm unsure what appeals to me.

I had a gift card to spend in WHSmiths, so I took a look at these, and decided on The Suspicions of Mr Whichers, and The Gargoyle. I can't say that any of the others called to me, and even The Gargoyle was a difficult second choice.

I already intended to read The 19th wife so I'll get that one for sure. I'll have a look at the others to see if they appeal to me.

I didnt know about this 'list'. I guess it's a British thing.
