July seems to be a good month for reading :lurker: Besides of course loving the Harry Potter books, I thought Anne of Green Gables was so lovely and such a nice story to read.

Finally finished the Twilight series. While I did enjoy Breaking Dawn, I still can't say I'm a huge fan of the series.

I wonder if my daughter wants to read "Breaking Dawn". She's read the first 2. She hasn't mentioned it to me. (she is only 10) ;)

Maybe I'll buy 3 and 4 for Christmas.

^^ Has she enjoyed the first 2? And wow, she's really young!

Finished Lucky Man: A Memoir which was really good. I'll start In Cold Blood tonight or tomorrow morning as I finally bought it when I was in London. I've been looking for a copy for months!

Happy reading anisia:lol:

"In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote was amazing! Very happy I got it after having it recommended here

If anyone can point out more books like this one, I'd be very happy :D

I'm starting Inkheart next.

Glad you enjoyed In Cold Blood, Anisia! It's one of my favourite books. Capote is such a great writer. I really enjoyed Breakfast at Tiffany's as well.

I actually have Breakfast at Tiffany's on my reading list! :D I liked Other Voices, Other Rooms too by him but not as much as In Cold Blood.

Ooh, I haven't read Other Voices, Other Rooms. But I want to read everything Capote has written eventually. After reading In Cold Blood he immediately became one of my favourite authors. :D

I definitely recommend Other Voices, Other Rooms :D Although I have to say it crept me out a bit, wasn't expecting that.

Finished Supernatural: Nevermore which was enjoyable (as I'm a big Supernatural fan) and I'll start Brave New World tomorrow

It's a long time since I read In Cold Blood, but it is still on my book shelf, and I remember it as a gripping read.

Is that Huxley's Brave New World? Is this a silly question? Hope, you're well.

Yes, that's the one I meant  I tend to forget to add the author unless I'm copy/pasting from my list

I'm well, definitely enjoying last 2 weeks of holiday cause it gives me enough time to read!

The Diving Pool by Yoko Ogawa was really good! I had no idea what kind of book it was when I started reading it so I was a bit shocked at some point. But it was great, all three novellas gripped my attention. Now I'm annoyed it took me ages to start it.

I'm reading The Colour of Magic now, I'm starting my challenge to read all the novels in the Discworld series.

Not sure on the classic I should read this month, I'd love to start Anna Karenina but I worry I won't finish it by the end of the month.

I gave up on Mansfield Park yesterday. It's not that I wasn't enjoying it, I liked it. For some reason though, I kept going very slow and I've been reading it on and off for 2 months almost... I've lost my mojo! I decided to set it aside and start it again sometime next year. I have big plans for next year when it comes to reading and Mansfield Park will be tackled again :D

I've already started Affinity by Sarah Waters which so far is interesting. I got it from the British Council library randomly so I have no clue about the author. Has anyone read this book? I did a search on the forum earlier but I couldn't find a thread with the author.

Forgot to mention. I did finish The Colour of Magic and I have really mixed feelings about it. It was interesting and it definitely made me want to read more. On the other hand I feel like I haven't understood the whole book, I still don't know the characters well and I'm honestly a bit confused about the whole world it shows. I assume reading more and more of the volumes in the series will help. I just found it a bit... difficult at times. Still, very enjoyable, need to read the second one soon.

I should be done in a couple of days, it's good so far :D I think I made a good random choice at the British Council library :D

The only thing that confuses me at times is the use of tenses. I find it odd to have the story told in the past tense and then in the middle of it a description of a person in the present tense. I got stuck on that for 10 minutes last night while I was reading. I don't think I've seen that before. It's probably just me though, I'm horrible with text analyzing so I never know when these things are excellent in the written work.

I've read The Fingersmith by Sarah Waters and it was simply amazing! I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I bought Affinity and Tipping the Velvet right after that but haven't yet read them :D I'm fairly certain that whatever Sarah Waters writes, will be just golden.

I'm sure there are people on the forum who've read Affinity, at least one member had read at least 3 books by Waters, I just cannot remember who it was..

Edit: I did a little research and Ruth was the one who's read a lot of Waters' books and she's also read Affinity :D

Thanks for the research! :D I searched some and couldn't find anyone who'd actually read it.

I do like it a lot so far and I remember when I was at the library they had The Fingersmith too so that's going on the list of what I'll get in January.

I loved Affinity!

Excellent book from the beginning till the end. I really liked the way it was written in journal form, it made it more real. The descriptions of Millbank prison and the women there were chilling and the mystery of Selina was very well integrated. I was totally surprised by the ending of the book and despite being cruel (perhaps not the best word), I thought it worked very well with the tone of the whole book. It was nice to see how every little piece fell together in the last few pages and any questions one might have were answered. In a way I was disappointed because I didn’t get the ending I wanted but this one worked perfect. I’m definitely reading the other two books by Sarah Waters that I saw at the British Council (I also got this one from the BC).
