Ernie
I am told when learning another language, it is helpfull to immerse yourself in the culture a much as you can. With that in mind I thought I would start this thread to gather any information on books of a Spanish flavour. I will begin with The New Spaniards by John Hooper, which I bought from Amazon after reading some excellent reviews. I found the first 2 or 3 chapters heavy going so put it to one side but am still determined to read it through. These 2 books are also high up on my TBR list: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
kateleopald
Having just returned from two years living in Spain I went down that route myself! The Dogs of God (can't remember the author) is a terrific piece of non-fiction dealing with the defeat of the Moors, the inquisition and Columbus. I was also introduced to the character of Captain Alatriste (Arturo Perez- Reverte) - whose books have ben transalted into English and Juan Elslava Galan's The Mule. WrongIslander
"On Bullfighting" by A.L Kennedy just arrived on my door step but I won't be reading it until June (when I go to Spain). I'll be glad to write my thoughts on it then and it might be something you might want to check out.
chesilbeach
I've read a few by Jason Webster which are all excellent: Duende: A Journey in Search of Flamenco, Andalus: Unlocking the Secrets of Moorish Spain and Sacred Sierra: A Year on a Spanish Mountain.
