Chimera Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Was that coment before or after my edit Ben? Ok, I'll see what sounds good tomorrow! Quote
Ben Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Oh it was before. It's always good to knock down the TBR. Quote
Chimera Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Plus random books might be a big disapointment... What about you? Will you be trying to overcome that block on your latest read? I hope you'll find your mojo soon! Quote
Ben Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I'm going to have a good read tomorrow when I get home from my after school thing. I'm only on page 200/ about 500 in Cell, but if I really go for it I'll finish. Quote
Chimera Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 I have finally reviewed Dreams from my father and Passag Quote
Chimera Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) Finished The Camel Bookmobile yesterday, which sets out a very interesting debate for us book lovers: are books vital, or do they have limits? Should they be spread to everyone or can they sometimes present a danger? I thought it was an enjoyable and interesting book but a bit undecisive. I've reviewed it here and on my blog and will go on to read The Summer Book by Tove Jansson. Edited March 15, 2009 by Chimera Quote
bethany725 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Chimera, Did you finish and enjoy Maximum City ? I tried to read this prior to our move to India and couldn't get into it.. Would love to know your thoughts Quote
Chimera Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 No, I haven't finished it yet. I left it to one side because it's just way too long (and with extra long chapters) to be read during the week when I only have a little time in the transports for reading... I knew I'd get frustrated *laughs* But it's definitely worth it! I found the part I did read fascinating. You really should try again, especially as you'd probably recognise lots of the places mentioned! And it would show you the Bombay you've probably not seen*, the 'underworld' (which in the book seems to be the 'overworld' really, being so little hidden and so powerful). I think I'll get back to it this week as I'l have much more time. Want to read it with me? *Of course, I'm guessing there. Who knows what you've really been up to during those 6 months? Quote

I'm glad you're at least enjoying the bits you get to read along the way I really should give it another try... I bet you're right and it will be a lot more valuable to me now. Unfortunately I don't have a copy right now as it was one I borrowed from the library before we moved to India, but when we to get to Hong Kong, I may just try it again. Maybe you'll still be working your way through it then! Quote
Chimera Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Maybe you'll still be working your way through it then! Probably *laughs* I got a pile of books begging to be read from my school's library* today so... Bombay wil have to wait! When are you moving by the way? *Yep, turns out they do have some interesting stuff in there. Took me 3 years to notice. Oh well... Quote
Chimera Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 I finished The Summer Book (my swap book) yesterday... loved it! It's a wonderful little book. There is nothing big happening but each chapter is a little 'vignette' showing life on the island, the growing relationship between Sophia and her grandmother, and for a foreigner like me a bit of the finnish culture. My review is on my blog for anyone interested Next up: On Being Foreign - Culture shock in short fiction. I must say I'm intrigued! Quote

Maureen Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Chimera, looks like your Mojo is back with a vengeance! Quote
Chimera Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 Thanks, it definitely is! And I'm enjoying every minute of it Though I'm struggling a bit with The Bookseller of Kabul. I don't know why, it just seems to be fascinating one minute, and drag the next... Anyone had any similar experience with it? Quote
