supergran71 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I think you are a very brave person to have put this post on here and I salute you. I am afraid that this barbaric practice is carried out here in the UK, but of course not openly and not under NHS care. I believe there are Muslim doctors who are practising in the UK who carry out this procedure secretly. The other way Muslim girls are subjected to this procedure is I believe by sending them back to their parents' homeland to have it done. There was an interesting programme on Channel 4 Dispatches tonight, describing what is being taught in mosques in the UK, although it didn't include female circumcision. Quote
wordsgood Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks for the compliment Supergran71! What I got out of the book is not that real doctors are perfoming this procedure in kitchens across the UK and in other "free" societies, so much as it is being done with the assistance and encouragement of certain family members, by their local religious leader. That was my take anyway. Could be wrong, but I would be truly horrified to know that someone who has taken an oath to help treat the sick and injured is carrying out such barbaric practices. Of course I'm referring to those physicians with internationally accepted training and qualifications, not those who had to get their training without the benefit of good schools and strict regulation/supervision.
