Any good fantasies to read?

I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

I have been told that if you like Harry Potter you'll probably like Ender's Game, written before Harry Potter, but with some similarities. Don't know who it's by, have a look on Amazon.

Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next -series, starting with The Eyre Affair.
The Princess Bride, by William Goldman.

Ooh, yes - I highly recommend both those choices. Excellent reading all round!

The first two in the series (in my opinion) are the worst of the bunch. The series gets MUCH better later on. You could always start with the 3rd one (Equal Rites) which is the first appearance of Granny Weatherwax (who later develops into a major character on the Disc), or the fourth one (Mort) which stars Death and his assistant (Death also develops greatly after this book). Both are the starting points for "threads" within the series (namely the Witches and the Death books respectively).

I never liked the Rincewind books as much as the others.

Ooh, yes - Neverwhere was good. The TV programme came first (if I remember correctly) and then Gaiman wrote the book to expand upon it a little. There's a BEAUTIFUL illustrated version you can get now too.

I've also just started reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I wasn't overly impressed with the film, but so far the book has all the markings of a great fantasy/fairytale...

For anyone who liked these ones, Terry Brooks has recently revived this series for the 2nd time in the last several years. Here is the link to his official website. The link I'm using should take you directly to the page on it listing all of his published work thus far, including all of the Shannara series.

I enjoyed the Shannara Series by Terry Brooks its got a decent amount of books in the series, so I recommend you be committed before reading it.:)

A Song of Ice and Fire (4 books out so far, one book is in two parts) by George R R Martin.

it's not finished yet, but there's a lot of words to read in the meantime.. this is one of the very best series in fantasy today. IMHO.
