I work in a large school and am setting up a book club for my Year 5 and 6 pupils. I plan to start with them bringing books in to talk about and I want to get them to do lots of book related activities! I have come up with a few but wondered whether you wonderful people had some ideas!

The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell might be suitable for that age group and they're certainly very exciting. Check out the official website HERE.

There are a few activities actually on the website - I was just checking them out. :)

They could also design Sky Pirate Ships and come up with their own Sky Pirate names...

They could also design ther own Deepwoods creatures - that would be a good one!

It's only right to point out there are about 9 books in the series - all excellent, but I suggest starting at the very beginning with The Curse of the Gloamglozer. :)

My daughter is in year 6 and Michael Morpurgo is very popular with her and her classmates. Even my non-reading son read a few of his. They both liked Kensuke's Kingdom.

How about an award ceremony at the end of term? You could have prizes

for

:)

An award ceromy sounds great! I am so brain dead from the end of term that I have trouble thinking of anything so thank you, a lovely idea!

Maybe you could get them to read a book and then design an appropriate book cover?

thanls Janet, I too love Morpurgo and will be encouraging them to read him! Is your daughter looking forward to moving on to secondary school?

She is, thanks! She's loved her time at primary school, but despite being one of the younger ones, I think they come to a point where they've 'outgrown' primary school.

It's 'shuffle-up' day on Thursday so she'll get to try it out to see what it's like. :)

Ah good that was on my list so I am glad others have thought of it! I used to love this kind of thing when I was at school!
