I started to read Twilight Children by Torey Hayden yesterday and as is my usual habit I turned to the back to see how many pages it had. It included a preview of a book which I found a bit strange as it was for Twilight Children also. Anyway having got to the last page it finished mid sentence and I have no idea how much of it I'm missing -there was no summarising so a fair number of pages I imagine. Next came a very frustrating 30 minute phone conversation to an Amazon call centre in India trying to explain the problem and no I couldn't tell them how many pages were meant to be in the book :friends0:.

Aggggghhhhhhh again

Oh how frustrating! I hope they can replace it for you.

I also look at the last page first to see how many pages there are :friends0:

They are but I have to return this one and I cannot print out a returns label as it is more than 30 days old so have to pay for it to be sent back and then they will reimburse me supposedly

Not only that but when I put my book down for the night I also work out what % of the book I have read :tong:

Oh, that's too bad! I have a copy of Dombey and Son that is missing about 70 pages..instead, it repeats the revious 70 pages. I think you should be able to get a new book.

I have a copy of Two Women by Martina Cole that does the same thing... It's in my collection as an oddity.

Amazon should replace it for you.

ohhh, I read a book like that once. It was a library book. I can't remember what it did, but it was right in the middle of the book....I think it repeated about 50 pages and then skipped 50 and then carried on....It was very odd...

and I'm glad you got a replacement

I had a book I bought from ebay that was missing a huge chunk of the final section of the story (which was itself the last book of a series). I had to request a copy from the library to find out what happened.

Oh did you ask for your money back?

I didn't actually, F&C. Maybe I should have! I recall it was quite a while after I'd bought it before I read it, so wondered if I'd left it too long (I'd already left positive feedback), and also I was rather generous and thought that perhaps he didn't know (though he probably did!)

Also, I thought that maybe one day it might be worth something!! Well, you can but hope!
