Searching for a Book

Well seaching for a series of books actually, if I remember correctly I think there is about 6 in the series.

 

A lot of this is guess work but from what I remember the books are about an aftermath of a nuclear holocaust and some people become mutants and some have hero like powers. I think i vaguely remember a character in it called Turtleman or something.

 

It's not exactly a lot to go on I know it's a pity I don't recall the authors name :[ It's been bugging the hell out of me, hope someone can help even a little :]
