Chimera Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Mood for me as well. It also depends on what I have on hand or I might just buy a book on a wim in a shop. But I have a bad tendency to look for reviews on the internet, not for ideas (which would be good!) but to check that what I've chosen really is a 'good' book and that I'm, in a way, entitled to like it Crazy and stupid I know, so I'm trying hard to fight this tendency and just trust my feelings and moods. *laughs* Quote
Guest Sifredi8760 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Well, if I've read something by the same author that I liked, I'm likely to read another one of his or her works. I'll take recommendations into consideration from friends with the same interests as me. I read the blurb and see if it can arouse my interest (I read about the content, I'm not really interested in reviews or quotes and citations). I'll basically read any book on any subject I'm interested in. I read classics to see what all the fuss is about. I tend to read books that inspired my favourite authors or musicians. Quote
smilerbabeuk Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Until recently all my books came from the library and my choice was made by looking at covers and then reading blurbs. Now I have a list I keep with me of books I want to read and I look for them. But the first thing I look at in books other than recommendations is the cover and the font of the title. Quote
pontalba Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I'm another 'mood' person. I like to swap around serious with light and humourous, and fiction with non-fiction but I can get quite obsessional about a certain subject, author or series and will read them back to back at times. Mood/vibes here. I do get stuck on a subject or author sometimes though. Been known to happen..... Quote
