pipread Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I take it you found your reading mojo then? Quote
Janet Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Finished my 40th (and final) book of 2008 today - 1066 And All That by W C Stellar and R J Yeatman. That's 10 more than 2007 and 20 more than 2006! Quote
Kylie Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 What did you think of 1066 and All That, Janet? I have it on my TBR pile. Being non-English, am I likely to get the humour of it, do you think? Quote
Janet Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 I was trying to write a review yesterday but it wasn't coming out very well! I don't want to put you off (and it's quite a thin book so hopefully I won't) but I think I might have enjoyed it more if I'd read it when I was 16. I say this for two reasons - 1. the humour is rather 'schoolboy' in style and also a bit dated now (the book was first published in 1930) and 2. my memory for school history is not sufficient for me to have enjoyed some of the references - and history was my favourite subject at school! I have to say I was pretty disappointed with it. It had some gems but for me, they were few and far between and I'd probably only rate it 5/10. (Sorry!) Quote
Kylie Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Don't apologise! I appreciate the honest review. I think I'll definitely have problems with it then, but I'll have a crack anyway! Quote
