Oblomov
I am sure that every one of us readers have come across some really strange and unlikley names for characters in various books. Which one would you say is the most preposterous name of them all? Personally, I have never seen anything to beat MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR of Catch 22. Mia
I was browsing in a cheapy books shop on Saturday, picked up a likely book and opened it at random to see if I liked the writing style and whether it caught my interest (I always do this with unfamiliar authors). Anyway, the name of the lead character leapt off the page at me: Champagne D'Vyne! It might have been tongue-in-cheek (it was chick-lit I think), but I just couldn't bring myself to buy a book with a character name like that in it! Kell
I always thought the name Humbert Humbert (from Lolita) was a truly ridiculous name, but at the same time, it really suits the character...
wrathofkublakhan
I always thought that "Ghisteslwchlohm" from the Riddle Master of Hed trilogy was a bit much. I think the author did too, she called him Master Ohm for much of the book, resistance is futile!
Adam
In Fools Die by Mario Puzo there was a character called Cully. I always found that name to be odd.
~Andrea~
You have obviously never read cosmicomics by Italo Calvino. All the names look like a cat ran over the keyboard.
