Books on alternative lifestyles/homelessness

I have a lot of interesting friends who live in squatting/homeless communities, living very alternative lifestyles either within nature or artistic corners of the city. I'm interested to read books related to these topics, whether fictional or non-fictional - ANYTHING.

Alternative lifestyle including a squat - Hippy Dinners by Abbie Ross - memoir

Poverty/homelessness - Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell - non-fiction

I second the recommendation for No and Me, I quite liked that book.

I've not read it, but one book that comes to mind is Walden by Henry David Thoreau.
