Birds_Will_Fly
I'm looking for a good winter read. Something frosty, snowy and spooky? I read the little stranger, snow child, the thirteenth tale and the taxidermists daughter all last year so hoping for something with that sort of vibe? Also maybe something Christmassy? I read some kind of fairy tale last Christmas and it was just lovely!

eyeseebooks
How about The Woman in Black by Susan Hill?
Birds_Will_Fly
That's a brilliant film and the book is definitely on my to read list. I have the small hand? By Susan Hill unread on my book shelf.

frankie
The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney? Seconding this recommendation! I would also suggest The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen. Highly recommended! I'm also thinking of Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov, but I can't promise 100% that it's set in the wintertime... It's the penguin in the novel that makes me think it might be but that's really neither here nor there, so .... Another title that comes to mind is The Stranger Next Door by Amélie Nothomb, but again, I'm not 100% it's set in the winter... I think it is, at least in part. Also definitely recommending Harbour by John Ajvide Lindqvist. A novel that came to mind initially but which I am not personally recommending as I didn't enjoy the last 1/3 of it: Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Høeg. We also have a thread for winter/snow/Christmas, but most of the recommendations are Christmassy read and/or not spooky, but if you want, you could always go through the thread and see if there's anything there
nursenblack
I don't know if you would be interested in horror, but I highly recommend NOS4A2 by Joe Hill, which was my first scary book of the Halloween season. It may be a bit more intense than what your looking for though. It think it is perfect for fall/winter and does involve Christmas. Of course, the Christmas theme is the stuff of nightmares. I've just bought this. In the mood for a scary book, but I need to finish The Goldfinch first.
