I'm looking for some recomendations, I like james ellroy, the red riding quartet by David Peace and also his Tokyo year zero I'm also a big Jim Thompson fan. I made a small foray into true crime reading three Joseph Wambaugh books (glitter dome, echoes in the darkness and the blooding) which I liked very much,I very much enjoyed true detective too and liked the philosophical slant it takes, any recomendations would be lovely thanx

I don't think I've read any of the books you referred to so I don't know the exact type of books you're looking for, but how about the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay?

As for true crime, I would recommend The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule (it's about Ted Bundy whom Ann Rule knew herself, so she's got a special angle for the story), Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi, Green River Running Red by Ann Rule...

I really like Jeffery Deaver's novels, too, mainly the Lincoln Rhyme -series, and I would also heartily recommend Karin Slaughter's books :smile2:

You could also check out some of the other threads in this crime/mystery/thriller section of ours for further ideas, for example the True Crime thread :)

You might like James Sallis.  He has a series about a New Orleans detective and his N.O. descriptions are extremely accurate.  Also his stand alone books are excellent.  For example he wrote Drive and Driven.  Some others are http://www.amazon.com/Death-Will-Have-Your-Eyes/dp/0316403245/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1431729165&sr=8-11&keywords=James+Sallis , and http://www.amazon.com/Others-My-Kind-James-Sallis/dp/1620402114/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1431729165&sr=8-9&keywords=James+Sallis .

I've read the ones above, and found them to be excellent, and a little different.
