Mistysky Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hi all, I am feeling a little behind on politics and left out when it comes to being able to converse in topics of this nature and would like to find a book that will help bring me up to speed with the american political system, political party, and significant events. Not so much focused or caught up on elementary details like branches and elective terms and such. Just something that will help improve my overall awareness and enable me to become a better participator. It would be great if you could recommend a book or two for me. Thank you! Quote
woolf woolf Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Nice try, Obama. I'm unable to help you, unfortunately. Perhaps a book by Henry Kissinger? He's one of the major american politicians and has a whole array of different political books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Kissinger Edited February 13, 2015 by Sousa Quote
Melodious Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I'd recommend checking out Noam Chomsky. Check his books out and see if any appeal. Quote
Brian. Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 If you want to read about individual aspects of politics such as capitalism, socialism etc then check out the "A Very Short Introduction" series of books by Oxford University Press. They tend to be less than 200 pages are serve as a very good primer to the subject at hand. I echo the Noam Chomsky shout as well. Quote
Mistysky Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 I found the book that I am looking for. Thank you for your responses. I will make note of the recommendations for when I need further reading. Quote
