muggle not
I have been humming/singing the song from this Dance Scene all day. My wife quickly distanced herself from me while we were in the grocery store. This dance scene has James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, and Judy Garland in it.......absolutely outstanding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKeYS1P9j1c Post some of your favorite Dance Scenes. Anna Begins
When I think of famous dance scenes, I think of one of my favorite movies, Singing In the Rain... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ZYhVpdXbQ Always fun to watch- I love the couple with the newspaper This one, Dance of the Drums, in House of the Flying Daggers is one of my favorites too- took me for-ever to find both of these! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NVpK8Vh_h8 For some reason, my computer will only click on these if I hold Control and click at the same time, dunno why they don't pop. On purpose, I did not post the video of Gene Kelly doing the Singing In The Rain song/dance as it is the most famous scene ever in Movies and dancing. I wanted to give someone else the opportunity to post it. I am glad you did. if anyone watches the dancing in post 1, please see it through to the end so you get to see Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney dancing. In his prime Mickey Rooney was the most famous and popular actor in the world. IMHO, he was one of the most talented actors, ever. Of course, Singng in the Rain I did a lot of plays in High School and after (36 in 8 years). We did musicals, Hello Dolly and Into the Woods. The year after I left, they did Little Shop of Horrors I loved the Judy Garland clip- and I wouldn't put it past (or is it passed) Bob Hope to do anything! Didn't he get his start in Vaudeville? chesilbeach
I love films with dancing! I'm going to start off with a couple of tangos: Moulin Rouge! - El Tango de Roxanne: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s12XiAOtjcg I love how Baz Luhrmann takes modern songs and reworks them into musical versions in her films, and I'm sure anyone who's seen Strictly Come Dancing or Dancing With The Stars will probably have seen Roxanne used for tango or Argentine tango. Take The Lead - Así Se Baila El Tango: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6VvR3hkePI And another one for Strictly fans - the lucky lady who danced with Antonio is former Strictly professional Kaya Vishilas. If you like the Tango and Dancing With the Stars, check out this Paso Doble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nidCOkGVa_4 Have you ever been to the Moulin Rouge? I saw a show when we went to Paris- all those beautiful women and dancing. It was cool to see the big windmill out front too. pontalba
Donald O'Connor. Yes. Singing in the Rain, but not the one you'd expect. I love Donald O'Connor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SND3v0i9uhE Probably not famous, but it's Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cHjqWfd9x0

Donald O'Connor was great and Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire were one of the "great" dance couples. Oh, how I miss them all. Yes, Bob Hope did entertain in Vaudeville. Which brings me to saying that I spent an afternoon with Brooke Johns at "Brooke Manor and Country Club" in Olney, Maryland. He was 90 years old when I spent time with him and he gave me an autographed copy of an album he recorded at the age of 87. Brooke made 4 or 5 movies back in the "twenties" and played Vaudeville and the Ziegfield Follies where he sang and played the Banjo. He had an orchestra and played for a number of Presidents and a Queen. To say the least he had an interesting life and knew many of the old time entertainers, Jimmy Durante, etc. I was honored to hear him tell me of those days. chesilbeach
Here is two from Strictly Ballroom I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29JMf66ZCG8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meJ-nxkVPl8 Strictly Ballroom is my favourite film ever! Love both those routines, and I'd been planning to use the second one, and match it with the flamenco scene in Mission Impossible 2, which also has Antonio Vargas in it as the owner of the villa. I love flamenco, and would love to see more of it on film. Can anyone recommend any films with flamenco in them? Here's the clip from MI2: Nice! Good dance routines. What is your absolute favorite dance scene from a movie? Ooh, that's tricky. I'll need to have a think about it, there are just too many. Some of my favourites have to include the AT in Moulin Rouge, Scott & Fran's Paso Doble from the end of Strictly Ballroom, the hand jive from Grease, and I can't leave out Dirty Dancing, which was one of my favourites as a teenager. But then I go back and I'd have to include the Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend routine in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Pick Yourself Up with Fred and Ginger in Swing Time, and almost anything I've seen Cyd Charisse dance. That hasn't really helped has it?!

That was when dancing was dancing.
Ruth
One of my favourite dance scenes is this from Anchors Aweigh, featuring the incomparable Gene Kelly: Gene again, in It's Always Fair Weather - dancing on roller skates. Fred and Ginger danced on roller skates in Shall We Dance?, but I much prefer Gene's dance (although I love Fred and Ginger in general): Moses Supposes, from Singin' in the Rain: I also love El Tango de Roxanne, which was posted earlier, and here's another tango scene I really like, from the film Easy Virtue: Finally, this is one of my very favourite film scenes ever - from The Fisher King:
