Potter Preferences...

Now that some of us have read all seven Harry Potter books, I was wondering which is everyone's favourite of the series?Which order of preference do you all have? For me it runs like this:

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (book4)

2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (book 5)

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (book 7)

4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (book 6)*

4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (book 3) *

6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (book 2)

7. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (book 1)

* These two are actually pretty much no a tie for me, so I actually have two of them at fourth place in my list.

It might seem a bit odd liking the first two least of all, but I thought the later books were much stronger over-all, and nothing has quite topped the excitement and break-neck speed of Goblet of Fire for me, although 2nd and 3rd place are very close to each other.

Now I've just got to wait for the rest of the films to come out. And also to hear what my Mam makes of the books - she's borrowed the first four from me to read for herself...

Oh I didn't even notice, sorry Kell, its a small world.

I did like them, they just weren't as great as the later ones. x

Well, I've been blown away by the 7th book, so that now stands at #1 for me.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

7. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

I agree with both of you on the last two, Kell and Gyre. I like them but maybe because they're shorter, there's just not as much 'punch' to them, if you know what I mean.

Wow - that's THREE of us so far who liked the first two least of all - and in the same order too! Anyone would think it's a wonder we carried on with the series - LOL! I have to say though, I DID enjoy them, just not nearly so much as the ones that came after, once things started getting just a touch more dark and dangerous...

Oh, I enjoyed them too, although seeing as I got the first four in a box set, they would have had to have been pretty bad for me not to read the rest! :thud: I think the latter books are more interesting because the story becomes more complicated and as you get to know the characters better, so you become much more involved and interested to see how it will all unfold.

I finished Book 7 today, so here are my favorites in order:

1. The Deathly Hallows

2. The Goblet of Fire

3. The Order of the Phoenix

4. The Half-Blood Prince

5. The Prisoner of Azkaban

6. The Sorcerer's Stone

7. The Chamber of Secrets

But I have to say, I love them all! :thud:

Fireball, I know what you mean about the first two books being more like a prologue to the series. Whenever I reread the series (which is at least once a year) I find it hard to get through the first two. I'm always tempted to just skip them and get to the good stuff!

Anyway, here is my list, though I find it a bit hard to place Deathly Hallows right now. I feel like I should reread it before I make judgement.

1. Order of the Pheonix

2. Prisoner of Azkaban

3. Deathly Hallows

4. Goblet of Fire

5. Half Blood Prince

6. Philosopher's Stone (Or as I know it, Socerer's Stone)

7. Chamber of Secrets

I hate putting them in order though. It makes it look like some I didn't like much but the truth is that they are all pretty much neck to neck!

Ah but the first one got us hooked - or at least me. I liked three for the character development, six for bringing many things to light and seven is just really, really good.

Five was too whiny - even though the movie explained why and was a very good movie IMO.
