geordie9 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Right ive just finished reading Roy Baintons Book of Unexplained Phenomena and im curious as to what people think of certain things from it such as ..... UFO's - I personally believe in UFO's and i have seen 3 unidentified lights in the sky over the last four years. Given the size of the universe i think its pretty much nailed on that theres intelligent life capable of flying vast distances. Life After Death/Spiritualism/Psychics - I dont mean to offend anyone thats religious but personally i think religion is the biggest con ever. Religion has probably got more people killed in the world than anything else yet its supposed to be peaceful and loving etc. Im a firm believer in science, its answered everything i need to know. I also have a real problem with 'psychics', i think they are con artists, liars, upsetting people for money. Just like magicians theres an answer to their 'tricks'. To quote Professor Stephen Hawking ‘I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. ‘There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.’ Quote
~Andrea~ Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 We already have a religion thread in the debating/mature discussion section. These topics sound like they should be there (separately?) rather than general book discussions (since this appears to be a topic about the topic of the book rather than the book itself) Quote
Michelle Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I agree with Andrea - we try to avoid discussions about Religion in the main part of the forum, as it's caused so many problems in the past. That's why the debating / mature discussion section exists. More generally though, these are general discussions rather than book discussions. Quote
geordie9 Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 well i havent got enough posts to access that area yet so i didnt know. apologies. Quote
Michelle Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 No need to apologise. Feel free to start a similar thread in General Chat, but stay clear of religion. Quote
