I have recently aqcuired a collection of antique veterinary books.  The vast majority of them still have leather jackets on them.  I am trying to sell them on the web.  My question is, would they sell better if I removed the jackets so I can picture the actual covers, or to leave the jackets on.  I assume any collectors are going to want to display the actual cover and not some plain black leather jacket, but I wanted to get your opinions.

I would have to cut the the strings holding the jacket on.  I cannot just slip the cover off, it would probably crumble in some spots.

On one or two of the books they glued the first and last blank pages directly to the cover, so I would have to remove those pages.  I think I'm just going to leave those ones the way they are.

my guess is dont touch the Antique at all ,let the collector decide what to do with it  ;)

Good advice!  But I'd also advise getting more than one opinion on the advisability of removing or not.

I agree with letting the collector do it. Somebody might have put the leather jacket on because the original cover is particularly damaged, so you might damage it more by removing it. And I think it's nice that someone went to the effort to make a jacket for it :)
