gardengirl
Will you be having a party [large or small] for Halloween this year? We are having a few people here [including children] and I could use a few tried and trusted meal, snack, ideas. Also, I have never carved a pumpkin before but will give it a go, how best to go about it, I am not very strong, is it hard to do, and what knife is best to use [don't want to end up in A&E!!]
Rachel56789
Hm.. I'm not much of a Halloween person, but we do hand out candy to the trick or treaters in my neighborhood. Growing up, though, we would throw cookie and punch parties at my school. You can try chips and hummus dip (you can dye it orange to match Halloween.) or you can make Halloween sugar cookies. I like to use Wikihow for my how to ideas, they might have something that you're looking for. Try these: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Halloween-Sparkle-Punch, http://www.wikihow.com/Decorate-Halloween-Cookies, and this: http://www.wikihow.com/Carve-a-Pumpkin. I hope I helped in some way. I have never tried out these recipes but I think they might work for you.
Peacefield
Snacks are always good for a party, gardengirl! Ditto to chips and hummus, and there's bruschetta too. The Wiki article Rachel gave you probably says this, but when you cut the hole in the top of the pumpkin in order to take out the insides, cut at an angle. If you cut straight up and down the 'lid' for the pumpkin will fall right in. Are people dressing up for your party? You could always have a costume contest . That was a big hit in my household growing up.
gardengirl
Thank you Rachel for the links, I will have a look in a min. Also thank you Peacefield for the tips! I think when you say chips you both mean what we call crisps here [we call fries 'chips'] yes, we could have orangey coloured crisps and hummous with maybe a bit of orange or green veggy dye in it, good ideas.Good tip about the lid of the pumpkin. When I was growing up nobody here really did anything at Halloween, it was called 'mischief night' and we used to just bang on neighbours doors and run away [the children that is!]More and more now it has become a big thing, but not everyone likes it I know.
