Dororo Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hi everyone! My name is David, I'm 21 years old and I'm from Portugal. Even though my parents aren't really what you might call readers, since I was a little boy I've had books in my life. My favorite genres are Fantasy, Books about Books, Horror and Gothic fiction. I'm also a pretty hardcore comic book fan. A few months ago I was watching the movie "Hearts in Atlantis" and my whole perspective on books changed, at some point after the main character receives a library card someone says to him "All the master storytellers of the world just waiting for you.", it was my wake up call, I really needed to get some reading done if I was ever to read everything that I wanted! That being said I've been catching up with everything that I absolutely know I'm going to enjoy since earlier this year! I don't have many friends who enjoy books the way I do (not even my girlfriend), and one of my favorite things to do is giving and receiving books so I hope I can meet some nice people here and perhaps even exchange some books ! I guess that's enough for now, hope I'm welcomed here! Quote
chesilbeach Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hello David! All readers welcomed here, good to have you aboard. I think a lot of members have joined for the similar reasons, and not having anyone to talk to books about is definitely one of them, so you'll find plenty of like minded people here, ready and willing to talk about books and reading. Athena Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Welcome here ! The fantasy genre is also one of my favourite genres, what are some of your favourite fantasy books or authors? Quote
gardengirl Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hello there, welcome from me too, and I am new member of the forum as well. It is a nice friendly forum to discuss all kinds of books. It's always a good idea to broaden your reading, rather than always the same genre, and a sign of maturity [up to your age I only wanted to read historical fiction!]Then I decided to read all sorts of things and was amazed by the number of different kind of books that I liked, from then on the genre didn't matter.I do like things to be well written [i don't mean hit over the head with correct punctuation all the time, although it does help]but more of a story well told, be it Stephen King or Tolstoy.Reading opens up such a new world to us all doesn't it? Signor Finzione Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hi David! I've very recently joined here myself for the exact same reasons - my husband has only ever read one book in his entire life, whereas books are my life. I read Treasure Island not so long ago - are you enjoying it? (I loved it!) I look forward to seeing you in the fantasy threads. Quote

With Robert Howard and George MacDonald, any particular books you recommend to start with? So I can put those on my wishlist. Quote

There's also a TV adaptation starring Eddie Izzard . Have you read Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch? That's a bit piratey, and it's a lot of fun! Quote
