New month, new thread!

I'm a few chapters into The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. I've also been reorganising my books, and my new bookcases in the lounge room look quite nice now. I'll post some pics soon.

Last month saw my mojo returning after it's usual dip during the summer. Even though I have got quite a large TBR pile I am venturing into London tomorrow on a book hunting trip. In true book geek style I have made a list of about a dozen book shops and markets that I intend to visit.

I'm very curious about The Casual Vacancy, hope you are enjoying it!

I finished Last Breath by Rachel Caine this morning, it's book 11 of The Morganville Vampires series. Glad I finally gave it a shot, so much better than the last couple of volumes.

I've been holidaying at my mum's and haven't touched a book for almost a week now :blush2:.

I should get back to Angela's Ashes - I have two-thirds of it left.

I liked how it's written (it is much more engaging that Paddy Clarke)

Finished Hollow Pike this morning, another excellent YA read, thanks for the recommendation Michelle. :friends3:

Will start Paranormalcy for the October reading group later today..:readingtwo::smile:

Ooh, I'm jealous. Those are about the only type of shopping trips I actually enjoy. Provided of course that my mule, er husband, is following quietly along to carry my haul. Hope you find lots of great buys. Good luck!

Will be interested to read your thoughts on The Casual Vacancy. My mum bought it the other day, and I'm hoping to borrow it once she has read it.

Looking forward to your pics too :)

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Tatiana and Alexander, and still thoroughly enjoying it. It's weird, because I can see the (sometimes obvious) flaws in this book, but I just can't put it down. It's the second book in a trilogy, and I want to read the third one soon.

Looking forward to hearing all about The Casual Vacancy or, at the very least, getting a :) or a :( Also .. can hardly wait to see the bookcases :exc:

420 pages into The Owl Killers, so may finish it today

Is that Karen Maitland? If so I loved her Company of Liars .. how did you find it Steve? (and don't say in a bookshop :D)

Dammit! Okay, I found it on Amazon :giggle2:

Yes, it's Karen Maitland. I liked Company of Liars a lot, but I think this one is better all round - providing it has a good ending

I've not long finished Paranormalcy by Kiersten White - very good indeed. If anyone's interested, it's this month's Reading Circle choice, so if you fancy coming along to discuss it, you can find the thread HERE.

I'm up to chapter 6 of The Casual Vacancy, and they're pretty short chapters. It's a bit difficult to get a feel for it so far because I'm still being introduced to all the characters. I have a feeling this is going to be a difficult one to review.

I tried the sample of Hollow Pike yesterday and bought the book this morning as I'd enjoyed it so much, and I've just gone and downloaded Paranormalcy for the reading circle too!

Lucky you. I love those sort of trips. One year my dad gave me $100 for my birthday and the kids went away just after, so I spent a lovely few days just wandering through as many bookshops as I could find.

Going by the thread, a lot of people can't wait to see what you think of the novel! And I'm one of them :smile2: (I had no idea you already had a copy :o)

What fun! :) I'm expecting a full report later today ;)

How are you liking Perfume? I really loved it when I read it :)

I'm currently reading a Finnish novel, Sininen hatturasia. I really want to finish it today so I could get into one of my wishlist reads that I've managed to snatch up from the library

I'm also thinking if I should spend today going to charityshops to see if there were any books there... it's been such a long time!

I know! It's been so long since I've reviewed a book - the pressure is too much! (Wow, if I get this way about a review, I can only imagine how poor Rowling felt when she published the last few HP novels!)

I agree! It has been way too long. Good luck!

I bought some books today:

Agatha Christie: A Pocketful of Rye, The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side and Sleeping Murder

Kahlil Gibram The Prophet

And a couple of grammar-type books.

Started The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt and so far it's good! I'm a bit bothered by the lack of dialogue which is replaced by the passive (if my memory of the English grammar, which I never tried to learn, serves me right), I just find it a bit weird. Still, so far enjoying the book a lot.

I went to the library across the road and borrowed the following books (In Spanish):

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'- Roald Dahl

'The Chronicles of Narnia' (The first book)- C.S Lewis

'Emile and the Detectives'- Erich Kästner

I hope I will be able to read these. I'm on chapter 6 of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', so far, so good!

Not too bad....it's not exactly going in the direction I expected, but that could end up being a good thing...have you read it?
